About

Sebastian Bergmann

I started using PHP in 1998. I do not regret this decision, though I have had 28 years to reconsider.

I wrote a testing framework because nobody else had, and someone had to. I called it PHPUnit. I have been maintaining it for over 26 years.

People assume that leaves no room for hobbies. I have two of them. Both are time-consuming and expensive, and both keep selling me expansions: board games and an Amiga 1200.

I co-founded thePHP.cc, a consulting company that helps other people write PHP that does not fall over. Mostly that means training and consulting, with the occasional conference stage.

I built thephpcc.academy, a training platform, after explaining the same concept in a classroom for the fiftieth time and deciding that saying it on the internet might scale better.

I write at phpunit.expert: mostly articles and slides, and the occasional opinion nobody asked for.

I have given more conference talks than I can accurately count, mostly about testing and code quality.

PHPUnit is Free Software. It always has been, and it will stay that way, because that was the point from the beginning.

I am still writing PHP. I am still maintaining PHPUnit. Ask me again in another 26 years.
