6 months, 2 weeks - Wildgate reviewed by Travis Northup on PC and Xbox, also available on PlayStation 5.Wildgate’s tense 20-player matches make for some really impressive chaos as I happily worked with my friends to either dominate the competition or (more often than not) valiantly go down with our ship. The PvPvE format is impressively unique, and unlocking new characters, weapons, and ships while exploring the Reach in the first few hours of matches is really special, even if you’re getting absolutely annihilated by rival crews while still figuring things out or learning how to cooperate effectively with your teammates. The only real issue is that this barebones launch needs a lot more content to keep the good times going, as it only takes a short while to see everything Wildgate has in store before familiarity sets in and there’s not much left to do but grind. I have a lot of hope that, given some time to cook up new characters, ships, dungeons, and NPC baddies, this could become a staple among my friends, but for now it’s a very polished starting point.

10 months, 3 weeks - Wildgate is a chaotic sci-fi first-person shooter from former Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime's new studio, Dreamhave. It blends PvE and PvP objectives alongside exploration and combat on foot and aboard a ship that requires multiple people to operate – a formula that may feel quite familiar to any fellow Sea of Thieves fans. But unlike Sea of Thieves, where the chaos of player-on-player piracy is a somewhat infrequent and optional distraction, in Wildgate it’s the primary focus, and the inevitable clash of geared-up crews left us feeling the same heart-pounding intensity of a battle royale.
