The sanest lunatic you've ever met
We thought we had longer before AHH's mom passed away, but she died last Monday. It was not unexpected, just much faster than we had hoped for. Now that I've spent the last week busier/more stressed out than I have ever been (on top of the grief), it turns out I actually could use LJ as a distraction. So: meme time.

Via [dreamwidth.org profile] out_there:

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

She gave me Prison Break; Life; and Horatio Hornblower. (As she put it: "The theme to those choices is "fandoms where main characters have spent significant amounts of time imprisoned"." I have discovered that this is a pretty good litmus test for me! *facepalm*)

Prison BreakCollapse )

LifeCollapse )

Horatio HornblowerCollapse )

Geek Girl Con is this weekend in Seattle! Jane Espenson and Gail Simone will be there, along with other media guests that I am not as familiar with. Heh. Looks like there's some very interesting panels running; anyone on my flist going?

I LOVED last week's Community. Quick thoughtsCollapse )

We finally finished Life! Very spoilery thoughtsCollapse )

I would love to vid this show. Just have to see if any songs hit me for it. It's gorgeous, though, and their use of light is spectacular.

Now we have to figure out what to watch next. We have the DVDs of several currently-airing shows as well as several long-dead, and I can't decide which one to go to next. Help influence me, flist?

Poll #1783901 SDW is Indecisive

The next show SDW and AHH should watch is

Doctor Who (11th Doctor)
19(32.8%)
Fringe
16(27.6%)
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr
4(6.9%)
Heroes
0(0.0%)
Veronica Mars
15(25.9%)
Southland
4(6.9%)

One plus one equals

Two
17(34.7%)
One
3(6.1%)
It's too Monday for math
29(59.2%)

And finally, more of the Vidding meme or I'll never get it finished.

Day 24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your vid? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

I used to have one beta that did all of the beta work for me, (aw, Fer, I miss you!). I talked to her about my ideas, I bitched and moaned to her, and she reviewed my vids and made excellent comments. We had a great rapport. As she got busier and busier, and my vids started branching out further from fandoms she was in, I started looking to other people. Nowadays I have a group of people that I complain to/get cheerleading from, one primary beta for a vid project, and then usually at least 1 other person who looks it over before it's done. I get itchy if I have too many people beta'ing a vid in-depth, so I still like having just the one major person providing commentary. (Though I did get excellent double commentary from china-shop & elynross for 'A Bad Dream,' so that way can totally work for me, too!)

Full list of questions.

Off to make breakfast and read more of the Unholyverse. *shakes fist at BrynnMck*

Seen over on tumblr earlier: "i think i can officially say that the wire is the best television show i have ever watched. and this is coming from someone who’s seen every episode of prison break."

Having also seen both of those shows, all I can do is giggle helplessly. (I also want to make an icon that says, "Prison Break: It's Almost As Good As The Wire!" or something. ♥)

Thanks to brynnmck telling me David Marciano is in a new show this season, now I'm going to have to watch Homeland. I didn't realize that was the Damian Lewis show, though, so at least there's that! I adore him now! (We're still watching Life, btw. We're almost at the end of season 2 where cut for spoilersCollapse ) Anyway, I really really love the show and am going to be sad when it's done. I look forward to watching episodes when we get the chance.

Sean Maher came out.

Great interview with Dominic West and Clarke Peters about their work together on Othello.

Due South/C6D Homecoming Festival Poll. A little gift fest sounds like a lot of fun and I'm hoping to participate in some small way.

More of the vidding meme!

Day 21 – Sequels – Have you ever created a sequel to a vid you made, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

I have not mostly because my vid ideas tend to be very self-contained and don't have room for sequels. I have no problem with sequels if the idea is there; Dualbunny has proven the excellence of that with her Starbuck-as-P!nk series. I actually, hilariously, do have a sequel of sorts vid idea for "Cold Cold Water" that would be the rest of Starbuck's time on BSG, but I just haven't gotten anywhere near okay enough with BSG to think about it lately. It's a great song, though. Perfect for her.

Day 22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

FESTIVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDS. I've actually also participated in a couple of Fandom Secret Santa exchanges, too. I love fests in general. I think my favorite experience with one was the first year of Festivids, just because everyone was SO FREAKING HAPPY and we were all so grateful to have the opportunity to participate.

Day 23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

I post to my journal after uploading my vid to my webspace and YouTube. I post an announcement on the general vidding comm and if there is a fandom-specific one, I'll post there as well. I will usually post to the vidding comms a few hours or even a day later after I post to my LJ, in theory that broadens my audience but IDK if that's actually true. I also TRY to post on weekday mornings, but usually I can't wait so I'll post in the evenings (I try to never post Fri or Sat evening, honestly) and then do my cross-posting in the morning to, as noted above, broaden the audience.

Let's not pussyfoot around here: I want people to watch my vids and I will do what manipulation I need to in order to try to attract the most people. Except I never do any sort of vid graphic. They have worked on me in the past but I am never motivated enough to do them myself.

Full list of questions.

And now I really need to finish this huge project I've been putting off for a month. SIGH.

Still not done. Still only about 250 pages in, actually. This is by far the slowest I've ever read a GRRM book. Heh. ANYWAY. I have more thoughts.

Under here for serious spoilersCollapse )

There is really nothing else interesting going on in my life right now. Oh! We did finish season 1 of Life! That was unexpected and awesome. Though vonniek tells me they've changed the music in the DVDs from what was aired and I'm very sadface at that because I LOVE an excellently placed piece of music. The show was strong with even what they used, but now I may have to search out the original finale to see that one at least. Anyway: loving the show a TON and moving onto season 2!

HELLO INTERNETS. I have consumed some media the last week or so which I would like to discuss with you. Shall we begin?

Treme season 2 finale. SpoilersCollapse )

Life season 1. Spoilers through 'Fallen Woman'Collapse ) Please don't spoil me as I have no idea what happens and am enjoying that!

And tonight I watched Drive Angry with gwyn_r because we both wanted to see William Fichtner but neither of us wanted to suffer the movie alone. I had a FANTASTIC time but that is one shitty movie. Wow. Cut for spoilers for a movie most of you will never seeCollapse ) Anyway, I can't recommend the film in general, but I can HIGHLY recommend Fichtner's scenes in it.

ONE WEEK UNTIL THE NEW GEORGE MARTIN BOOK. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I AM EXCITE. Now that we're here, I find my patience has finally run out.

Off to watch SYTYCD.
