Yeah, yeah Jim Beaver, whatever. I mean this guy:

You may also recognize him as ...!Collapse )

It's a sad day when I'm more excited about him than Jim Beaver.

In amazing casting news, here's a spoiler for someone coming to Castle: Who could it be?Collapse )

That's all I've got.

Oh - thank you to podfic-lover for the wonderful Bitchin' Buddies gifts she left! I have been listening to Boy's "Little Numbers" obsessively over the last few weeks!

And thank you all for the sympathy & condolences on my last post. I will respond when I can; work got unexpectedly ridiculous and I've hardly had time to breathe this week.

Thanks to Dragon Age 2, we’re really backed up on Justified so we just watched “Cottonmouth" (the ep from three weeks ago) this weekend. I love this show so much, which "means I have basically nothing worthwhile to say about it because all I seem able to do is make flappy hands. I will say that I ADORE the Boyd & Raylan relationship and all of its complexities. And I love the show snark. And Timothy Olyphant is lethally hot. My GOODNESS. (I also have extremely complex feelings about Boyd/Ava. EXTREMELY. COMPLEX.) But HOLY SMOKES, Mama Crazy Pants is REALLY GODDAMN SCARY. YOU DON’T DO THAT TO YOUR KIDS. (I mean, you don’t do that to anyone. But ESPECIALLY your kids.)

We HAVE kept up with Community (especially since it’s been so scarce, and no new eps again until April 14!). A few thoughts on ‘Critical Film Studies’Collapse )

Two related Community links:

1. Donald Glover doing the ‘La Biblioteca’ bit with a fan (and being super adorable about it).

2. This article about Community is one of those ones that I think current fans would totally agree with and want to shout from the rooftops, but I fear people who haven’t seen the show yet would think it’s totally over-the-top. Heh.

**********

On the Dragon Age 2 front, Spoilers through Act 2Collapse )

And then last night while I was falling asleep, I had an image of Cookie Monster as a Tranquil mage, and now I cannot stop laughing. I think it would look something like this:

N is for nug, that's good enough for meCollapse )

I signed up to make a Club Vivid vid this year, but I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew. The idea is really fun, but I think there’s too much source for the limited time I have. Hell, I still have this HCL vid I’ve been working on for a couple of months now lingering on the timeline. I think it’ll end up being my Premiere this year since I don’t see how I’ll get anything else done.

And in news that surprises even me – I’m going to the My Chemical Romance concert this coming Sunday and I’m really really excited about it!

I will answer comments again some day! I PROMISE. I haven't even read any comics in the last week! And my Game of Thrones re-read has slowed, too. (Part of that, I think, is because I don't want to get to the sad parts. Heh.) Just need to do Puplet’s 19 month birthday post first.

I have to first start this out with a huge THANK YOU to [profile] aurora_84 and anonymous for sending me adorable lemurs for my LJ profile! I'm sorry I've been such a bonehead and continually forgetting to thank you for them.

Now, on to memes.

30 Day TV Meme

Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)

Even after my flailing about Treme yesterday and my adoration of Modern Family all this season, I still have to pick Justified for this spot. I wasn't going to, when I was pondering this meme a couple of weeks ago, but the last few episodes cemented it for me. Especially given the season finale! I would like to see more squee abounding about it, really. The way they pulled the character arcs together through the season was really well-done and I can't say enough about the dialogue - as [personal profile] brynnmck described it, it's funny and real and has a hint of poetry to it. I'm eating it up. (Like his boss' line about how 'some kids are biters.' That makes me laugh EVERY TIME I think of it.) Plus the supporting characters and even the one-shot characters are amazing. Like said boss. And Walton Goggins is killing the role of Boyd. That is a character that could go completely off the rails with the wrong actor, but he has been mesmerizing. And the finale! quick spoilery commentCollapse )

Complete Meme ListCollapse )

30 Day Music Meme

Day 03- A song that makes you laugh

Hmmmm. My first thought was a song I actually want to vid, so I'm keeping that under wraps for now. Instead I'll go with Smothers Brothers - 'Slithery Dee'. (Short, but hilarious.)

Complete Meme ListCollapse )

AND molly_may gave me this one: Comment and I will give you ten actors and ten actresses. Then post in your Livejournal with your favorite films of theirs. (PS - I actually suck at movie stuff so you guys are going to be HORRIFIED at my choices here AND I'm not going to give actors/actresses to anyone else because I'd fail at finding enough different ones for people. I'M SORRY. /o\)

WHEW
I have answered all the outstanding comments in my Inbox except for the ones from the 2000th LJ post, which I will do someday because I really WANT to. I just have to get out of June/early July and then I will possibly even have TIME to. I have a few emails left to get to, but I am now sort of caught up on my online life. Woo! And I got another year of paid DW time! Double woo! (Though I didn't get to it before my account expired, so now I have to re-load all my icons. *cries and cries*)

So, because I keep seeing this meme all over my flist and I have loved reading it, I've decided to snag it, though it's not really going to be a "30 day" meme for me so much as a "30 answers in whatever timeframe I can do it" meme.

30 Day TV Meme

Day 01 – A show that should never have been canceled

Charlie Jade! This show was so awesome - even though I had to watch the pilot episode twice to understand what was happening. Heh. It was a very twisty, thoughtful show, with fascinatingly gray characters (especially Charlie himself and 01 Boxer), interesting world-building, some sketchy female endangerment stuff that was starting to get better in the last half of the season, a cool premise, a load of physics, and a hell of a finale. I really wish we could know where they were going to go, because they so clearly had a plan, and it was a plan that looked really neat. ALAS.

Complete Meme ListCollapse )

AND a music version, via pfeifferpack!

Day 01- A song that makes me happy.

Just ONE?! This meme is going to be way harder than the TV one. Let's see, a song that has been working well to cheer me up lately (and that I've linked to before, but is worth doing so again!): Gigi - Guramayle (Box.net link) Very cheerful tune, though I admittedly do not know precisely what she is saying.

Complete Meme ListCollapse )

Other things I would like to post about in the near-ish future: a discussion about life after death beliefs; scans from the Star Trek coloring book I was given at BP; China Beach (though I have to watch more first); how much I love Amy and the 11th Doctor based solely on my viewing 'Vincent and the Doctor'; Treme, once we watch the last SIX episodes *cough*; Justified and how much I LOVED the finale; and why Kent from Wapakeneta better watch the farmboy attitude before it becomes fake and he starts annoying me rather than making me love him.

We'll see which of those I actually get to. Heh.

Item 1: I haven't forgotten how to vid. This is good! I was kind of concerned.

Sub-item a: Even with the week extension of the Club Vivid date, I might not get my vid done in time. Vidding takes a really long time; I forgot that. Plus I can't seem to get more than 15-30 minutes at a time any more, which is not conducive for my vidding style. But I'm trying! And the few clips I have been able to lay (I had to finish ripping source, ugh) have made me laugh.

Item 2: I finished The Song Is You. I loved it. I did not love the last few pages when I first read them, but now that they've had time to sit in my head, and I've had a chance to think about the ending in context of the rest of the book, I realized the book I thought I was reading was not exactly the book he was writing, but the book he was writing is actually there, I was just bringing my own stuff to the whole story. I do have one major complaint about the ending, which I'll talk about here - SPOILERS!!Collapse )

I really really recommend the book, though, especially for music lovers. Phillips gets at the love affair with music in a very true way, and that was the highlight of the reading experience for me. It was a quick read, engaging, the prose sometimes a little overly-descriptive, but he always managed to tone it back down before it got annoying (to me).

Sub-item b: Now I am in-between books and not sure what to pick up next. I have a lot to choose from. It's a good place to be.

Item 3: We watched episodes 2 and 3 of Treme finally, and are all caught up on Justified (second season! yay!) as well. Still loving both shows. Had thoughts about Treme but I've lost them all.

Sub-item c: My friend N has been blogging about her Jazzfest experience this weekend and all the talk of delicious New Orleans food is killing me. WAAAAAAAAAAAAANT.

Item 4: The new Mary Chapin Carpenter CD is excellent. And Matt Pond PA has a new album coming out soon! Good musical times, my friends.

Sub-item d: I am less excited about Colin Meloy writing a children's book.

Item 5: I should get back to work. It's not going to do itself.

Sub-item e: And that's probably good because then I'd be out of a job. Heh.

There's really no community for Justified yet? Really? Or is it just LJ's new search feature that has completely stymied me? Someone should get on that! *nudges flist*

ETA on LJ only: And the Internets provide! justified_fx Thanks, flist!

In any case, I have not been able to find ANYTHING to meet my icon needs, so I did a quick search of the web and threw together a handful of icons from what I dredged up. Nothing fancy, but y'all are welcome to use any as you see fit.

No spoilers, just hotnessCollapse )

And as a bonus, have this picture: Under the cut to save you from immediate combustionCollapse )

You're welcome. *g*

It's April 1st, i.e. the day that, as a defensive mechanism, I refuse to believe a single thing anyone tells me. Woo!

However, you should believe me when I say that you should read today's Dinosaur Comics from the website. Hee. And for a collection of various April Fools' Pranks, TechCrunch is keeping a list.

8 days till bitchinparty, y'all! And also 8 days till The Losers opens! And 10 days until Treme starts! Woo, April!

We are all caught up on Justified and really loving it. I am constantly pleased at how slyly funny it is, and how well Timothy Olyphant handles that fine line of drama and snark. I also appreciated minor spoilersCollapse ) The one-shot characters have all burst off the screen, I'm interested in the supporting characters, and Raylan (I had to go to the website to confirm how to spell that) is a compelling and made-for-fandom lead. It also helps he has great chemistry with basically everyone. And a hat. I love a good hat! Clearly an icon or two are in my future. *g*

Other things in my future: answering all the lovely comments I've gotten the last few days, I promise!

ETA: I don't think this cross-posted when I first did it, so I'm trying again.

How awesome is Justified? SUPER AWESOME, that's how awesome. I'm going to enjoy this show, I can tell already. If you talked about it, I missed your post because we were late in watching the first episode and I didn't want to be spoiled, so please drop me a line and link me?

And in news that probably falls under 'ironic': posting on my blog about how I'm addicted to the Internet. But it's true, and I'm taking steps. Step 1: Admit you have a problem.Collapse )

So. That's my life right now. Heh. Ultimately I don't think this will affect my posting/commenting too much, at least not any more than they've already been affected by everything in my life. I'm hoping that I'll actually become better at commenting or at least responding to comments and emails. My email is especially backed up right now. But if things change and I have to start doing friends/reading list filtering, I'll let you know.

In other life news, last night we bought a new set of sheets and a new comforter and it made me really happy. A new comforter! We've had the same one for nine years! I can't wait to put it on the bed tonight!

Sometimes it's the little things.

Lastly: happy belated birthday wishes to [dreamwidth.org profile] kass! It sounds like you had a wonderful day, which I'm so pleased to hear! :)
