Or rant about it, as the case may be.

The "it" in question are the new security rules at U.S. airports, just in time for holiday travel funtimes! These new rules are the double-whammy of new security machines (specifically the 'backscatter' machines) and, if you don't want to get a safety-unproven dose of radiation on your trip (with a side order of naked pictures), then you can have the new super-aggressive patdowns with bonus genital touching.

WOO. LET ME PAY $400-800 FOR A ROUND-TRIP TICKET SO I CAN GET IT TWICE.

More thoughts under hereCollapse )

In kind of related news, we finished Jericho! Heh. I loved the broadcast ending AND the unaired ending included on the DVDs and want to hug Hawkins FOREVER because he is the AWESOMEST. (So is Major Beck. Actually, Jake is pretty much my least favorite character on the show. Hee.) What's interesting to me about the show is the way it really kind of feels old-school Republican in nature (not the new, shouty Tea Party Republican). Although mildly spoilery for season 2Collapse )

Did I mention I love Hawkins? Just double-checking. Not sure what our next show is going to be. I think we're going to give Avatar: the Last Airbender another try, or possibly The Dresden Files (we watched the first five minutes via Netflix and were intrigued). But I'm so glad we watched Jericho. I loved it!

O.M.G. last night's episode of Community was AMAZING. Minor spoilersCollapse )

We ALSO watched episode 2x04 of Jericho last night and, um. MASSIVE spoilersCollapse )

I need some Jericho icons, darn it. Have this Office icon since we also watched The Office last night (and enjoyed it, though I think I'm done after this season).

Hi Internets! Life has been CRAZY since last we talked, and included taking Puplet in to get x-rays (we thought he'd fractured his ankle; thankfully everything is fine, it's just a REALLY bad strain), missing the fun. concert (WOE), but making the Jeffrey Foucault & Peter Mulvey concert (AMAZING - loved every inch of it). We've started watching Jericho season 2 (two episodes in and I still adore the show) and are keeping up with Castle but everything else has fallen behind. (Oh, except Modern Family, The Amazing Race, and Community, which I convinced AHH to watch with me by showing him the space episode. \o/)

Anyway, I'm not actually here to share all that. I'm here to share this thing I got in email from my dad that made me kind of laugh and go "omg YES" (ESPECIALLY NUMBER 11) and I felt compelled to show you guys. IDK! Just go with it!

So there's that. Did I tell you I've given up the Chargers for this year? We needed a break. I'm actively rooting against them because I think they also need a break from the Playoffs. Then we can both come back together next year as better people and I can love them again.

Sports, man.

Hope y'all are well!

Hey guess what? Seattle has apparently decided it is DONE WITH SUMMER and wants it to be rainy, cold fall already. THANKS, SEATTLE. APPRECIATE IT.

Sheesh.

At least I have Eureka to make me RIDICULOUSLY HAPPY. Spoilers for 'The Ex-Files'Collapse )

We're also on episode five of Jericho, which I actually really really really like. The last scene of that episode made my stomach curl in on itself, though. Brief spoilery commentCollapse )

PLUS. FESTIVIDS IS COMING! More info here at the LJ comm (though they have a DW comm as well!) EEEEEE YAAAAAY. I have to start working on my list. Eureka and Jericho are both totally going to be on it.

Hey, I should do more of those memes I started.

30 Day TV Meme

Day 14 - Favorite male character

Ray Vecchio, step right up. I just. Man. Ray. Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. That pretty much encompasses my feelings for him. Heh.

Seriously, though, he's a character who when I watch him in action, or think about his awesomeness, I feel my heart fill up with love so that it chokes all the words out and all I have is flail. I don't ever want anything bad to happen to him. Ever. Never ever. Why is he my favorite? Well. He's loyal and funny and a dork and a badass and loves/hates his family and he likes strong women and he didn't ask for protection for himself and he mortgaged his house and he took a bullet TWICE for Fraser and he carried Fraser on his back for MILES and he went to Vegas and he came BACK from Vegas and he loves his car and his mama and his partner. He's RAY VECCHIO. I feel like that says it all.

30 Day Song Meme

Day 14 - A song you like hearing live

This one is easy!

Decemberists, "Red Right Ankle" (mp3; box.net)

I love this song anyway, but I find its poignancy is best when it gets stripped down to just Meloy and a guitar, which is the way they always have done it live when I've seen it. I prefer it at its most basic level, not produced. The link is a live version from his solo tour album.

And thank you to muirichinnahali for the virtual dune buggy! It made me laugh. :) Today for my birthday I am responding to comments. PARTY! \o/

I feel like I have many things to say but I can't recall any of them. Argh. Maybe posting will shake them loose.

Um, we made it to the aquarium? It was kind of epically, hilariously difficult to get inside (including an hour in line in the RAIN AND WIND WTF) and then we force-marched our way through so we could get back to VVC so I didn't miss EVERYTHING at the end. But we went! And we saw the baby beluga whale, who was adorable. Now we're home, I'm busy with work and life again, and we're going on another trip at the end of the month because we're clearly crazy. So tired, yet so much to do.

Still, I want to drop this link: Thao & Mirah making album together!!!!!!! (Yes, this news requires just that many exclamation points.)

Guster's new album comes out in October! I've heard two songs off of it and love them both!

Vid rec: You Are Not Alone by prodigi249. Hancock vid to Eminem's 'Not Afraid' using official video & movie source together. I thought the vidder really worked the two sources together excellently, and the world needs more Hancock vids.

I know the answers to the next two 30-Day TV/Song meme questions, but I want to talk more extensively about them, so I'll probably have to finish up those memes in September. Maybe I should re-title them the 30 WEEK TV/Song memes.

I'm working on a BSG vid right now and have been re-watching some early season 1 episodes and parts of the miniseries and my primary thoughts are mostly: "wow, this used to be an awesome show," "Screw you, Ron Moore, for messing this up," and "I can't believe how much I hate Adama now; I don't even like early-BSG Adama anymore because all I see are the things I came to dislike about him later."

I need to answer the questions I got for vid_commentary! They're interesting! I will have to do that next week. Heh.

We started watching Jericho now that we're all caught up on Eureka again (HENRYYYYYYYYYYYY) and have seen the pilot episode so far. It's caught both our interest, for sure. I had a very visceral reaction to the idea of it all and couldn't stop thinking about how I'd feel in that situation. I look forward to watching more.

I still can't remember what I actually wanted to say, so I guess I'll go. I probably won't have time for much of anything for the next two weeks or so, but my mission statement for September is to respond to ALL THE COMMENTS. I SWEAR, OKAY?

(I seriously am hesitating over hitting post...oh well, I can just post again. Won't be the end of the world. Hee.)

OH OMG I JUST REMEMBERED. AHAHAHAHA. (Sometimes this icon is just too appropriate.) OKAY. Speaking of vidding, I've been pondering a vid idea and I need some help from y'all: can you please provide me with media sources (TV or movies) where there are good parent/child relationships? Preferably with children 18 or younger. Especially helpful are ones where the parents are helping/saving the child in some way - emotionally or physically. So far I've got Buffy, BSG, ST:TNG, Farscape, Eureka, and Terminator. Would welcome whatever comes to mind! Thank you!
