The sanest lunatic you've ever met
The vid_commentary comm on LJ is doing an interview series and I was one of the lucky random vidders selected. (Thank you to whoever suggested me. I feel very out of touch with the vidding community given how very sharply my output has dropped over the last couple of years, so I appreciate even being asked.) I am in a group with four other amazing vidders, and now we need your questions! Go here and ask - comments are screened, and you can either ask specific vidders or all of us whatever you'd like.

ontd_political has a great post today with Vintage photos of LGBTQ persons, figures, and couples: early to mid-Twentieth Century. It's adorable and happy.

I found this quote yesterday and it really resonated with me, so I'm sharing it:

"When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don't blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or our family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce. Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument. That is my experience. If you understand, and you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change."

- Thich Nhat Hanh

I don't entirely agree with it - people aren't lettuce, for one thing, and have agency that lettuce lacks - and sometimes blaming (or at least persuasion using reason and argument!) IS the right thing to do. However, I think the spirit of the quote is what really hit me, not the particulars of it.

That being said - more meme! Work was an absolute BEAST this week, but I think things may be returning to normal. *knocks on EVERYTHING*

30 Day TV Meme

Day 11 - A show that disappointed you

I have three answers to this, for three different reasons.

Under the cut due to lengthy bitternessCollapse )

30 Day Song Meme

Day 11- A song that reminds you of summer

Timely, given we finally had summery weather this week! You get two this week.

Duran Duran - "The Chauffeur" (mp3; box.net) - This one reminds me of late, oppressively hot afternoons where you're sitting around, sweating, but the air is still rich with promise.

Dala - "Drive Through Summer" (mp3; box.net) - This one reminds me of a breezy drive along the coast on a beautiful summer day. And even has 'summer' in the title!

We finally got our season 3.5 Eureka discs and we're watching the first episode. I'm already filled with the familiar happiness this show gives me. We're recording season 4 right now so we can catch up once we've finished these discs. \o/

We are all caught up on TV. I have total, unabashed love for Castle and am pleased down to my toes to see Nathan Fillion being awesome on my TV EVERY WEEK. However, we deleted all of the unwatched Dollhouse episodes from Tivo and then our season pass. I'm sorry, Joss! I just couldn't get up the energy to ever want to watch it, and we still have Homicide and Eureka to finish, not to mention Life and Jericho to start. However I just saw that Joss Whedon will be directing an episode of Glee, which makes me excited.

Speaking of which, we're still watching that show, too, and Sue is my favorite part. Well, Sue and most of the musical performances (I cannot stand Finn's voice, for some reason). However, last week's really killed me because cut for spoilersCollapse ) Otherwise it is slightly-off-putting-at-times fun.

We're also caught up on Dexter. A brief comment under the cutCollapse )

We had Good Times this weekend that included AHH and Puplet and I joining a bevy of local fangirls for apple-picking adventures! Puplet was very good, whipping out the skeptical faces and then the smiles, and sleeping during most of the actual apple-picking. Then on the drive home I heard the little duck hanging from his car seat bar jingle from him hitting it, and then he laughed and I loved him more than I had loved him ever before, which seems like an impossible thing. Half an hour later he had an epic meltdown for reasons we never found out and are settling on "exhausted." Oh, babies. ♥

Actually, Anne Lamott really captures what it's like loving an infant in her book Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son's First Year. I would recommend this to all parents, but especially anyone who currently has a baby. From her book:

One thing about Sam, one thing about having a baby, is that each step of the way you simply cannot imagine loving him any more than you already do, because you are bursting with love, loving as much as you are humanly capable of - and then you do, you love him even more.

I spent the whole book just nodding my head and laughing and tearing up. It's a good, quick read. (And if there are writers who haven't read her Bird By Bird, you should do that IMMEDIATELY. Also an excellent book.)

On a sort-of related note, October 15 was Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. I just want to link to the post I made last year. I'm so thankful for my very different circumstances this year.

On a happier note, at apple-picking we also ran into chickens attempting to dig their way to China under their chicken coop. It was, in fact, Prison Beak brought to life. I took pictures, as you do. They're under the cut!Collapse )

Finally, I will ATTEMPT to do this meme, though it depends on said Puplet. Taken from voleuse

*Your Band Of Choice* Song Inspiration Fic Prompt WHATEVER Meme
1. Choose a fandom that we share
2. Choose a character and/or pairing
3. Choose a Decemberists song (click on the album covers to see the song titles)

And I will write you a ficlet. In theory. When I'm not poking around the PB apocafic AU. Or smiling at Puplet. I spend a lot of time doing that. Hee.

There. That is enough from me today.

So I finally had time to watch the Glee pilot, and I enjoyed it, which I suspected I would. Especially with the TOTALLY OFFSIDES use of Journey. That's not playing fair. Heh. But, it looks like I'll be adding it to my TV watching next season!

We are still watching Boomtown, though we got sidetracked yesterday thanks to Rescue Me (which is really good this season; I'm totally twisted up in everything that's going on right now, especially with white Sean), but I did want to note quickly about Boomtown that spoilers for 'The David McNorris Show'Collapse )

I have not laughed this hard at something in awhile: Literal video version of 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' via a couple of people on my flist. So funny I was, I swear, in tears.

The weather in Seattle this week has been better than the weather in San Diego. It doesn't happen often, so I like to note when it does. Heh. What a gorgeous place this is. ♥ I've been getting out to take advantage of it, too, and with the sun not setting until 9:00pm or so (yes, I am still amazed that there is some faint light in the sky at 10pm; I don't know that I'll ever get over that), I have lots of opportunity to take advantage. It's making it hard to vid, as I'd rather be outside than sitting at my computer.

And yet right now what I really most want to do is have an afternoon tea out on the porch with everybody, with little sandwiches and scones to eat. Mmmmm....sammiches. There's a great tea house not far from my place. Come on over, you guys!
