It is an ideal pathway for oral bacteria to invade periodontal tissues causing periodontal damage, pulp necrosis, apical periodontitis and endo-periodontal deformity which is not easily perceived until sinus tract infection appears in mouth. It presents a challenge to most clinicians as it requires an interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment planning. Aim and Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of palatogingival grooves (PGs) in maxillary anterior teeth on CBCT. Materials and Methods: CBCT examinations of 707 teeth in 120 patients (Female-41, Male-79) were evaluated retrospectively. Maxillary central incisors, lateral incisors and canine were investigated for the presence or absence of PGs and PG type using the Gu classification (type I, II, or III). 3D CBCT images were used for evaluation of PGs. Radiographic features ...

Effective COVID-19 pandemic management requires adequate understanding of factors that influence behavioural changes. This study aims to assess knowledge and practices towards COVID-19 of patients visiting dental OPD among the Nagpur population. Aims and Objective: The study aims to evaluate knowledge of patients visiting dental OPD regarding COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods: A structured, prevalidated questionnaire consisting of 13 questions was given randomly to 200 patients visiting the dental OPD of Nagpur, Maharashtra to assess their knowledge and awareness towards COVID -19. The obtained data was analyzed using statistical software. Results: Result of present study state that overall knowledge of people is 31.82%. Conclusion: This study raises some important concerns about the adequacy of knowledge of the patients visiting the d...

A blockage or damage to the salivary gland is the most prevalent cause. A mucocele is formed when saliva pools due to a blockage or damage within the salivary gland. Biting the lip, cheek, or other parts of the mouth can cause a mucocele to develop. Its management may be difficult for dental practitioners. The purpose of this clinical case report was to discuss mucocele therapy using traditional methods, as well as the benefits and reasons of recurrence.

Studies, case series, clinical trials mentioning the treatment of leukoplakia with herbal modalities were included. Data are available on follow-ups of herbal treatment modalities for leukoplakia. 7 out of 10 studies were picked up for inclusion and were included in the systematic review. The effectiveness of various herbal treatment modalities for the management of leukoplakia was reviewed. With the help of abstracts and titles, the preliminary screening of the recovered studies was done. In studies whose results were found to be unclear, its corresponding full text was read. The studies where independently evaluated by authors and the results were discussed until a decision was made by a general agreement. 7 out of 10 studies were picked up for inclusion and were included in the systematic review. Several treatments exist for treating this “potentially malignant lesions” even including some surgical, as well as non-surgica...

We present a case of maxillary sinus carcinoma that affected the entire orbit, resulting in proptosis of the eye and nasal cavity. The patient was recommended for palliative treatment due to the high degree of its involvement and proximity to vital structures. It manifests with very mild to no signs, resulting in a late diagnosis. As a result, physicians must be mindful of maxillary sinus pathologies to make an early diagnosis. Paranasal sinuses are air-filled spaces located close to vital structures such as visual organs and the face. Maxillary, ethmoidal, frontal, and sphenoidal are the 4 paranasal sinuses that are named according to the bones in which they are situated. Nasal cavity and paranasal air sinus malignancies are uncommon. According to the literature, paranasal sinus malignancies account...

The stage of diagnosis is crucial because it is directly related to the prognosis of the patient. Gingival squamous cell carcinoma, due to its varied clinical appearance possesses a diagnostic challenge. Also, early invasion of bone occurs due to its close relation to teeth and periodontium which further contributes to a poorer prognosis. A rare case of gingival squamous cell carcinoma has been reported here, in a 45 year old male patient. The diagnosis was misleading due to the benign appearance of the lesion. Although angiosarcoma and acantholytic squamous cell carcinoma represents different tumour entities theoretically, their histological features are similar. Therefore, advanced diagnostic aids were helpful in giving the final diagnosis.

Localized gingival growths are one of the most frequently encountered lesions in the oral cavity,... more Localized gingival growths are one of the most frequently encountered lesions in the oral cavity, which are considered to be reactive rather than neoplastic. Different lesions with similar clinical presentation make it difficult to arrive at a correct diagnosis. These lesions include pyogenic granuloma, irritation fibroma, peripheral giant cell granuloma, peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF). Among these lesions, an infrequently occurring gingival lesion is the POF. Considerable confusion has prevailed in the nomenclature of POF due to its variable histopathologic features. This is a case presentation of a 30-year-old female with gingival overgrowth in the mandibular left canine-premolar region. Clinically, the lesion was asymptomatic, firm, pale pinkish and sessile. Surgical excision of the lesion was done followed by histopathologic confirmation with emphasis on the clinical aspect. Given the rate of recurrence for POF being 8-20%, close post-operative follow-up is required.
