The truth is, most of us discover where we are headed when we arrive.

Bill Watterson

That might sound like a scary prospect, but as-ever if you’re paying attention, it is possible to change course before you arrive in order to stay on the right road.

In this speech, Watterson goes on to say, having an enviable career is one thing, and being a happy person is another. Re-encountering these quotes recently hit me like a hammer in the midst of reflecting how or whether to proceed with what felt like an overwhelmingly important fork-in-the-road life decision. While these aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive, it feels increasingly hard to find a balance.

Is capitalism to blame? Is it just me?
