We’re excited to invite members of the international polar community to submit abstracts for the 12th SCAR Open Science Conference. This year’s programme features 50 dynamic sessions across the Physical Sciences, Geosciences, Life Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, along with a rich selection of cross-disciplinary themes. General Information

  • The abstract submission deadline is 28 February 2026 at 23:59 UTC.
  • Please note that poster and oral presentation slots are limited. We encourage applicants to prioritise and limit their abstracts to ensure that all contributors can participate in a diverse and well-balanced programme.
  • Make sure to read the submission guidelines below before starting the submission process.
  • Log in to the submission portal. Before entering your abstract, you will be asked to choose a session. Read through the session descriptions to find the best match.
  • The final set of parallel sessions in the programme will be determined by the abstracts submitted. Parallel sessions may be added and/or removed at the discretion of the International Scientific Organising Committee and affected abstracts re-assigned as necessary.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Abstracts must be submitted electronically and in English by 28 February 2026 at 23:59 UTC.
  • Please note that poster and oral presentation slots are limited. We encourage applicants to prioritise and limit their abstracts to ensure that all contributors can participate in a diverse and well-balanced programme.
  • The abstract submission system is run by Oxford Abstracts. The link for the abstract submission on the website will bring you to a login page where you have to create an account first. Make sure to keep your login information, as you can use it again later on for the conference registration.
  • After creating your account, you will receive an email to verify your details. Please verify your account before proceeding. Note: The communication will come from the address [email protected]. Please check your spam folder if you haven’t received the verification and make sure to whitelist the email address to ensure that you receive future emails.
  • All material must be the work of the authors listed and appropriately referenced.
  • Before entering your abstract, you will be asked to choose a session. Read through the session descriptions to find the best match. During review, session conveners can choose to shift an abstract into another session after consulting with the new session conveners.
  • The abstract title is limited to 50 words.
  • The abstract text is limited to 300 words. It is highly recommended that you create your abstract offline and cut and paste into the portal, so that you retain a copy of your submission. Special characters and formatting may be lost during the copying process. Please ensure to check your abstract with the preview button to see what it will look like.
  • Authors other than the submitting author are added via the button “Add another author”.
  • There is no limit on the number of co-authors.
  • Indicate the presenting author by ticking the “presenting author” box. Only one presenting author is allowed.
  • Once you have submitted your abstract, you can edit, preview, download, or delete your abstract by navigating to your dashboard. These functions are available until the close of abstract submissions on 28 February 2026.
  • Click on the “new submission” button in your dashboard if you would like to submit another abstract. 
  • After the deadline all submitted abstracts will be reviewed and you will be notified whether your abstract has been accepted or rejected. Accepted abstracts will only be included in the conference programme if an author has registered for the conference.
