Apologies for not posting in...forever. I've been a busy little bee lately and now that the semester is over and the 'rents have left I have a moment to breathe (before I start in my new lab rotation later today?)
To catch everyone up on what's been going on in my life, I'm going to post the truncated version. I dropped out of my sister's weight off a while ago because I had plateaued and wasn't looking to really drop much more weight that quickly, but I have been working out a lot and running (with the exception of this past week when my parents and best friend were visiting, ughhh). Hopefully I can get back to my regular schedule this week! I ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure last Sunday and managed a 5K in 26 minutes...I would have liked to finish in 24 minutes but decided it was a good time for my first race in 5 years. Since then I've increased my workouts to have a 5K be my short run for the week and running 4-5 miles of the other run days, and I also added a fifth day for some cardio. My friends and I are going to be signing up for a summer spinning or zumba class once a week which I'm pretty excited about also :) Yay, fitness!
I found a new apartment! I will be moving sometime in July, the lease is still be written up by my landlord so hopefully by the end of the week it will be signed and I'll have some move-in dates! I'm very excited to have a one-bedroom apartment that also has mucho counter space in the kitchen! I really like cooking but have been limited in my current apartment that LITERALLY has no counter at all and so I'm forced to prepare food on my kitchen table which is too low :( New apartment also has a large walk-in closet for storage which I lack at the moment as well. It's in a cute and quiet neighborhood, but it's further away from campus/everything. However, I have my bike here and am totally willing to start riding it as compensation for peace, quiet, and space!
Let's see, what else? My parents came down last week from Monday-Thursday to visit. I don't know why, but I get very aggravated when they are here. I feel terrible but it's hard to deal with them in the city. My dad wants to see EVERYTHING but insists we drive there, which is super inconvenient in a big city :( My mother is just picky and refuses to eat anywhere that doesn't offer plain cheeseburgers, which is also hard for me to find because I don't eat plain American food when I go out. Thankfully my best friend also visited from Tuesday-Saturday and so kept me sane. I took the 'rents to Olde City and walked around Penn's Landing, then went to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. We ate at Copa Banana which everyone really enjoyed, surprisingly! Wednesday we all went to Reading Terminal Market which was a lot of fun! We ate there and also hit up the Italian Market in the afternoon. My friend and I grabbed breakfast with them at their hotel Thursday morning before they left for my sister's and then spent the rest of the day at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum, and the Frankling Institute. I took my friend out to some bars/dancing that night with my friends from school which was a good time, as always. Friday we went shopping along Walnut Street where she forced me to give my phone number to the very cute store manager at The North Face. *dies of embarrassment*
I had a pretty lazy rest of the weekend and am starting in my new lab this afternoon (technically) by meeting up with my new PI and one of the post-docs to discuss my project and get clearance to the building. I know I said this would be the short version so I will wrap up here. Happy Monday!
