Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast - Ransack the Encampment

Goretim the Reddish decided it would be best for the Blood Siblinghood of the Slaughter-Gut-Pile Bloodbound Horde hole up for a bit and engage in some rest and relaxation. They all desperately needed a chance to recuperate and sharpen their axes... Unfortunately a pair of wandering Gargants caught the scent of their fresh snake-meats and attacked the Bloodbound in their own camp!

A pair of MEGA GARGANTS (and their two pet Frost Sabres) approach the Bloodbound camp!?

Were they siblings...?

Were they lovers...?

Were they an an anarcho-syndicalist commune that take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week (but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special biweekly meeting!)...?

Perhaps all three...who can tell with the Sons (and DAUGHTERS!) of Behemet!?

The Bloodbound hurriedly mustered and stood ready to defend their encampment!

The male-presenting Warstomper Mega-Gargant approached from the Bloodbound's right...

The female-presenting-kraken-eating-mega-Gargant approached from the Bloodbound's left.

The Bloodreavers charged forward to distract the Warstomper, only for the ENTIRE UNIT to be swept away with one swing of his mighty club!?

While he was distracted, the Blood Warriors, Mighty Skullcrushers and Goretim the Reddish, himself, all charged in to try and fell this gargantuan beast!

The Claws of Karanak, like the Bloodreavers, were little more than the briefest of distractions...

The Warstomper hammered down hard on the Blood Warriors... but the remaining Blood Warriors and Mighty Skullcrushers kept on poking the beast in his feet and shin until the blood flowed freely - as Khorne expected...

The Kraken-Eater moved on and pummelled Bob Bloodblob into the ground...

The Warstomper hammered down hard on the Blood Warriors and knocked Goretim from his Juggernaut... but the remaining Blood Warriors and Mighty Skullcrushers so damaged his toes and shins that they made him run off, crying... Khorne cares not for the flowing of tears though... only blood... and he blood did flow...

The Kraken-Eater beat down the Khorgorath next and knocked the last Mighty Skullcrusher from his Juggernaut...

Then she seized some of the Bloodbound's supplies and started eating them... while smashing down Gob Bloodblob!

The two pet Frost Sabres also seized a cache of the Bloodbound's supplies. snarling viciously at any who approached... even the Mega-Gargants!

The two remaining Blood Warriors fled and seized a small pile of Emberstone shards!

Welp my run of victory for the Bloodbound was brief and short-lived and we were immediately back to losing... badly...

Bob Bloodblob healed Goretim the Reddish with his blood ceremony and Gob Bloodblob healed himself some. The Claws of Karanak joined the ranks of the Battlescarred, gaining Unyielding Blisters from being trampled into the scorching sands by a gargant.

I am starting to realize this campaign system is highly skewed to favour small elite armies - meaning armies with a small number of high-point-cost units. With the number of units I have, and only two heroes being allowed to heal units each game, I just CANNOT keep up with the managing of battlewounds - especially when being tabled nearly every game!

SIX of my eight units have at least one battle scar, and the Bloodreavers now have TWO!? Even the Mighty Skullcrushers, who I had been trying very hard to keep the battlewounds down on, now have smouldering scars, which means every game there is a chance they gain EXTRA battlewounds!? I don't think ANY of the other players have units with battlescars at this point...

Not sure what to do with the Five Emberstone Shards I've accumulated...

I have collected twenty-five in total, so I can start playing Gnaw's Edge Battleplans - if an opponent agrees - and slowly claw my way toward the campaign's final scenario! One of the players has to have accumulated 20 or more Emberstone shards to play a Gnaw's Edge Battleplan.

If at least one of the players in a game has WON a battle using a Gnaw's Edge Battleplan, the players may chose to play a Hateful Shores Battleplan... once there are two players in a game that have BOTH WON a Hateful Shores Battleplan, they may elect to play the Hel's Claw Battleplan - the FINAL BATTLE of the campaign. The first two win a Hel's Claw Battleplan is the winner of the campaign!

I think Matt (Stormcast Eternals) also has collected twenty or more Emberstone Shards.

We may get this wrapped up by the end of the year! Then maybe start Blighted Wilds in the new year!

Work-In-Progress Wednesday - 7 August 2024

Welp... Having finished up the Blades of Khorne Spearhead Army... what was I do do next!? MOAR KHORNE!? A new Spearhead Army? Build some terrain? Back to Warhammer Underworlds or Warhammer Quest!? Something entirely different!?

Obviously, I tried to do a bit of them all!?

And the workbench is a bit of a mess now?!

I started clearing things off after taking this picture...

Taking up a lot of prime real estate on the workbench are all these Khorne Dogs that I am rebasing. They are the last of the Khorne Daemons I'd originally based on Warhammer 40K Sector Imperialis bases, Which I've been slowly re-basing to the flagstone and rubble bases I've been putting all the Khorne stuff on so hopefully the Daemons can pass for fantasy or far future...

Because they're taking up SO MUCH SPACE and will be relatively easy to finish up, these will be the first things off!

There were also these to Hounds of Chaos... I also rebased, but kept them on 40mm round bases as the larger oval bases just looked too huge for them... the could have been stuff onto 32mm bases... but that looked a little cramped...

Gorechosen of Dromm - Warhammer Underworlds warband - I was working on these a little but as I was working on all the other Bloodbound for the Khorne army... I decided to stray from the dusty desert bases I've done all the other Khorne stuff for Warhammer Underworlds and tried to do something more like what I've done for all the other Bloodbound... I'm not sure it's worked out. I may just put them onto new bases with flagstone and rubble...

As with the above, took the opportunity of working on Khorne Bloodbound to try and finish these off... I think I might just pop these off their bases and put them on Flagstone and Rubble bases as well...

The Melusai Ironscale has been joined by a unit of Blood Stalkers in preparation for working on the Daughters of Khaine Spearhead army!

I'd bought the Arena of Shades Battle Box because it had the other two units I needed for the Daughters of Khaine Spearhead army... but when I went to assemble the Witch Aelves... I discovered it did not have the assembly instructions for Witch Aelves, only the Sisters of Slaughter (the sprues included can be assembled as either... but as the background fluff for the box only concerned Sisters of Slaughter, it only included instructions for those!?

So, instead of assembling Witch Aelves I started assembling all the terrain from the Extremis Starter Set... But they were taking up TOO MUCH SPACE on the workbench so I've mostly moved them off to shelves nearby...

Then I decided to assemble all the Stormcast Eternals Heroes from Skaventide!?

AND I rebased a few more Heroes from the Blades of Khorne army...

And these guys are still there... (I did do a little work on them this past week...)

Then there are all of these still haunting the corners of the workbench, which I am loathe to move off because they're all so close to being finished?!

And I also decided to start painting some control markers for the Spearhead Armies I've already finished...

and... that's about it...

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING ON THIS LAST WEEK!?

Work-in-Progress Wednesday - 24 July 2024

Well... with the Blissbard Archers done, and with them the Hedonites of Slaanesh Spearhead force... what to do next!? Probably one of the OTHER Spearhead forces I have... and then working each of those up to 1000-point starting Paths to Glory forces.

So what's on my workbench today, then...?

First priority are these wall bits so I can play some Spearhead! Two large and two small terrain bits are used in each game. I already finished the small ones, so now I need to finish these off!

There are a few Hedonites of Slaanesh Heroes that managed to sneak onto the desk while I was working on their Spearhead force... I kind of want to move on to other things.. but these are SO CLOSE to being finished, I kind of also just want to finish them up..

Under the category of "Moving On"... a Vampire Count from the Soulblight Gravelords Vanguard/Spearhead box! It also happens to be the model suggested for Carmilla Dusang - one of the Nemeses in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars

Also dug out some OLDER Vampire Lords to try and finish up...

You can't used unique/named Heroes in a Paths to Glory force... so I thought I'd get some Generic Vampire Lords ready for that

(Yes, I KNOW these were NAMED characters back in Warhammer Fantasy... But they're Citadel miniatures and I'm not using them AS those characters, so... )

(Of course I could do the same with Carmilla Dusang... or ANY of the Vampire models... buuuuuut....)

And while I'm working on Vampires, I thought it was about time I finished these up...

While I'm at it, I'll probably sneak a few more things onto the workbench from Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

Still these Castigatores I was using to test the Anvils of Heldenhammer colours on...

Mindstealer Shpiranx - the last of Hargax's Pit Beasts - is still on the workbench... It may be here a while, as I don't have a clear idea of HOW i'm going to paint it yet...

I did start on this Melusai Ironscale... becaue it was too embarrassing to have all these Daughters of Khaine with no paint on them... and I thought if I finished up one of the heroes, it might motivate me to do the rest of the units!!

Three Darkoath Warriors... one being a rather new recruit... These might show up in our Warhammer Quest campaign! I had a funny idea for an encounter involving them. I've had a BUNCH of ideas... I hope we get to play again soon!

Ugggghhh... this fucking guy... All I really have left to do are the patchwork pants and the shield on his wrist... but I just can't seem to get motivated to GET IT DONE!? (there HAS been SOME work on the pants this last week, though, so that's SOMETHING!)

Waiting in the wings are...

The rest of the Soublight Gravelords - just need to pick up some more Green Stuff - to make more flagstone bases - and SKULLS!!

and this... likewise waiting for green stuff and skulls and time and space to work on them... Tempted as I am to just ASSEMBLE THEM ALL... I kind of just want to focus on the Gravelords until they are done.

(But I'll probably assemble a few of the Hero models, for funsies!)

What are YOU working on this week!?

Work-in-Progress Wednesday - 26 June 2024

I haven't really got much DONE in the last week... but I've been working on things! Here's what's still on the workbech

Still managed to keep it MOSTLY clear of NOT CURRENT PROJECTS!

Putird Blight Kings

Shadows Over Hammerhal Heroes

Other Warhammer Quest Heroes

I started work on the Hedonites of Slaanesh Vanguard box I picked up last week. I'm getting them ready for the the upcoming Spearhead League and the Warhammer store (and hopefully, at some point, a Paths to Glory Campaign!). I've been pretty distracted from the MAIN PRIORITIES by these... and they have taken a LOT more time than anticipated to assemble?!

Shardspeaker of Slaanesh and three Slaangor  Fiendbloods.

Blissbard Archers....

These were my nemesis this week... gone are the days of mulitpart plastic figures where you get things that are recognizably Legs, Torso, Arms, Head - that you don't even NEED directions to put together...

Now it's THIS!?

The instructions make it LOOK like they should go together real easy like... but not so much... C26 and C27 look like it should be easy enough to put together... but those bits don't obviously slide right into place... SOMETIMES they do and if feels like you're working with a masterpiece of engineering... other times... I'm not sure if i'm looking at part of a head or part of a butt and which way which is to go...

Don't get me started on how soulcrushingly frustrating it is to get C30 and C31 into the EXACT RIGHT SPOTS in the armpit areas and just the right angle so that the arrow is NOT just just waving around in the air like something that desperately wants to be broken the first time you put it on the table... let along trying to make it contact the bow anywhere close to the hand holding the bow... AND keep that fucking army/arrow stuck to the miniature you're attaching it too and NOT YOUR FUCKING FINGERS?!?!?!?

I've only just started assembling the Slickblade Seekers - which look AMAZING... but they are also FREAKING HUGE compared to the older Seekers!?!?

The last two months Free Minaiture-of-the-Month are still lingering on the painting desk as well...

The Chaos Gargant is STILL on the workbench... I think I did a little bit of work on it in the last week... maybe... but it wasn't that much and I forgot to take a picture of it, so...

The Chaos Gargant and Warhammer Quest: Shadows over Hammerhal stuff (Putrid Blight Kings and four Heroes) are still, in theory, the priority. While I'm pretty sure I'll get the Warhammer Quest: Shadows over Hammerhal stuff done by next week - when we were planning to start the campaign... I'm not-so-sure I'll get the Gargant done by Friday... I have a feeling it's going to be tough to motivate myself to work on that with all these Hedonites on the desk that I'm super excited about!?

Also this past week, I got RID of some more stuff.

While organizing the Workbench and putting miniatures back in their permanent storage drawers and taking stock of things... I opened up the drawer that held these and said... yep... these need to go... and so I posted them on my local Miniature Buy/Sell on Facebook Marketplace and within an hour or so, they were gone!

Well... spoken for... they weren't actually picked up

Work-in-Progress Wednesday - 12 June 2024 (plus new FREE Mini-of-the-Month)

Wow... got a lot of stuff FINISHED in the last week; Thundrik's Profiteers, The Chosen Axes, and my (Stand-In) Chaos Gargant...

Still a LOT of stuff on the workbench, though...

Earlier today I rode out to the Warhammer Store and picked up the new Free Miniatures-of-the-Month - a Dark Oath Chaos Warrior!

What have I actually been working on this week...?

I did assemble the Cado Ezechiar model I picked up last week... It came with a bare 40mm base, but I ended up using a modeled base from a free Stormcast Eternal mini that I'd picked up, but then realized was missing a leg!? (The shield from the same Stormcast Eternal is on the Gargant's base!)

I've also done a bit of work on the Chaos Gargant.

Because it's a CHAOS Gargant, I wanted to do the skin in a not-so-traditional colour - like the Stand-In Chaos Gargant - but decided I should do a different colour... and chose green - as a sort of contrast to the purple of the Stand-In Gargant... but I'm not loving the green and now I'm kind of regretting it and wishing I'd just done purple on this one as well... but I'm not sure I can be bothered to try and go back and start over... because I kind of want to just GET IT DONE!!!

These are two Kharadron Warlord characters for Warhammer Quest games that I was working on along with Thundrik's Profiteers... The one on the left is, I think, Shadow Over Hammerhal, and wasn't given a name. The other is Dagnai Holdenstock, from Cursed City. As I got close to finishing those, these got left by the way-side in favour of just getting the others DONE and off the workbench. I imagine I'll finish these up in the next day or so...

Few other

I definitely did a little bit of work on the Kairic Acolytes this week, I was working with a lot of gold and used a bunch left over on these guys and then did some work on base colours for skin.

So many rats and goblins and other assorted bits and bobs... but not many of those have been worked on this past week...

I think the PRIORITY for the next week is the Chaos Gargant and maybe the Kairic Acolytes... Then there are just a handful of Tzangors and the Grot Scuttlers and six more familiars... oh, and the Gaunt Summoner... and THEN I'll be ready to play Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower...
