40K - Aeldari Faction Update... sort of...

Ages ago, in January, I took a bunch of new pictures of ALL THE AELDARI - right before the new codex came out, I think...? I was planning to do a Taking Stock/Faction Update post... and I'd started organizing them into a new gallery page.

I never did the Taking Stock/Faction Update post... and it seems like a pain in the ass to basically copy and past ALL of those pictures from the Gallery into a post just to post the same stuff in a post... when the Gallery is right there... So I finished up what I could for the Gallery and published it. It still needs some new pics of the Epic stuff and the Drukhari/Ynnead stuff... but all the Assuryani and Harlequins have been catalogued!

You can find all the pictures of the CURRENT Aeldari force (along with some commentary and point values) on the new Gallery Page:

40K - Aeldari Gallery

It has all the current (as of March) point values.

Spoiler: If I put ALL my painted Assuruyani (Craft World Aeldari) and Harlequins together in a force, I'd have 1995 points!

(I have NO IDEA if it would even be a USEFUL, PLAYABLE force... but I have a 2000 point force ready for action and don't NEED to paint a thing! Yay!)

40K - Aeldari - Faction Update

Since the announcement late last year (at the World Championships in November?) that the Aeldari Codex would be one of the first ones released this year, I've been thinking about doing a bit of a stock-taking of my Aeldari forces...

Then with the announcement yesterday that the Codex will be going up for pre-order this coming Saturday, and released on 8 February 202, I thought it was about time I got to it!

There really isn't much ORGANIZING to do for this, as 40K has abandoned force construction rules - other than everything is now set unit sizes and you can't have more than three of any thing (or six, if it's core troops). The point values might change with the release of the new codex... I just hope they don't fuck around with the unit sizes!

This is what I have for Aeldari and what I still need to do as of the beginning of January 2025...

Painted

These are all the Aeldari I currently have done.

Wow... that's already a 2000+ point force! All the other stuff to paint is just OPTIONS, I guess!?

  • Scorpion (1)  410 pts
  • Scorpion (1)  410 pts

Titanic Total: 1230

The models are old Armoucast Tempest Heavy Tanks... but they're very similar to the current Scorpion Heavy Tanks, so... that's what I'd use them as!

Still to DO!

This is all the Aeldari things I still have to do... well... most of them...

  • Autarch (1) 75 pts

  • Falcon (1) 140 pts
  • War Walker (1) 110 pts
  • Wraithknight (1) 510 pts
  • Wraithknight (1) 510 pts

Total: 3570

Another 3570!? That's a LOT of options to play around with (or a full second force!?)

One of the Wraithknights there is fully painted. It was Keiran's and they said they don't want it anymore, so I've taken it. I may or may not repaint it. Maybe... if I ever get the one I own done... and I want them to match...? I'll probably keep it as is...

TITANIC

I also have a few other Titanic forces which didn't fit into the pictures...

Phantom Titan - the old Armourcast version - partly painted/partly assembled - I didn't feel like getting it out of the cabinet - it is SO TALL it wouldn't have fit nicely into any of the above pictures anyway!?

I also have two of the old Armourcast Revenant Titans. I also did not feel like assembling them to try and stick them into the picture... One I thought I might paint in wild patterns - like my Harlequins (if/when I ever get to them!)!?

Titanic Forces

  • Phantom Titan (1) 2100 pts
  • Revenant Titan (1) 1100 pts
  • Revenant Titan (1) 1100 pts

Total: 3300 pts

It would be fun to get them together and play some Apocalypse games with them at some point...

When it's ALL DONE

All the stuff together.

All of that stuff, together, including the Heavy Tanks, adds up to about 6855 points... If I add in the Titans, that would be 10155 points!? Yikes!?

Now I need to update the Aeldari Gallery... Or maybe just make a completely new one!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!?

Somewhere along the line I acquired an finecast Eldrad Ulthran miniature... likely in a lot with other miniatures. Then acquired an assortment of newer (and not-so-newer) plastic aeldari... and then there was the Voidscarred I picked up for Kill Team... and how Keiran has gifted me all their ole Aeldari (which are all plastic or Finecast) and I got it in my head to put together a small contingent of plastic/finecast miniatures from Ulthwe (the craftworld where Eldrad Ulthran comes from...)

I don't know... I have a LOT of the main force (which are all METAL)... when am I ever going to get to THESE!? I should probably just trade/sell them off...

Also there is a Aeldari aircraft in this box that could be built as either Hemlock Wraithfighter or a Crimson Hunter. it was originally Keiran's as well... I could assemble it an use it with the main force... or use it with the plastic force... or sell/trade it off with the plastic force

I also have the Ynnead (again, was Keiran's) as with the above... But also, could be used with the Drukhari force...? Which is alos all plastic...?

And there are boxes/drawers FULL of Keiran's stuff that they don't want anymore... easily another 1500 points or more...

Still to GET!?

I need ONE metal Swooping Hawk to have a complete unit of ten.

I also need TWO (or up to five) metal Harlequins. Two will bring the three troupes to eleven (as they are fielded as 5, 6, 11, or 12..?). Five would bring all three to 12. I guess I could, currently, field them as two units of twelve and one unit of six...? (with one spare left over... but then I'd have to re-repaint the bases on some of them!?)

Other than that...? Not really anything I can think of!?

I mean, if I could find some old Armourcast Falcons and Wave Serpants...? But I am definitely not actively looking for those right now...

Or if ever I stumbled across some old metal jet bikes... or the harlequin metal jet bikes (I had one waaaaaaaay back) that weren't insanely expensive... I would totally pick those up too...

Part of me just wants to abandon the Ulthwe force of plastic miniatures... sell or trade them all away with most of Keiran's stuff... There's a small part of me that wants to hold onto Keiran's stuff for them, though. When I was their age, I ditched a lot of things that I thought I'd never want again - including SO MANY warhammer miniatures (both fantasy and 40K)... and very much regret having done so now!! I have a feeling that they are actually DONE with 40k for good... or even gaming all together (at least miniature gaming and role-playing... they seem to want to hold on to a few of the boardgames that are theirs...)

40 Days of 40K - Part Five

Here are a few more of the 40K inspired drawings I'd done over the last few days.

#21 - Terminator

The prompt was just "Terminator", so I chose to do a CHAOS Terminator of the Emperor's Children chapter.

I meant to add a few more spikes... but forgot ...

#22  - Grey Knight

Brother Patrick - Grey Knight Purgator with Psilencer.

Based on this miniature from my own small force of Grey Knights.

You can see the rest of them here:

Grey Knight Force

 #23 - Crisis Suit

I was originally going to do a Crisis Suit when the T'au prompt came up a week or so ago, but then looked ahead and realized it showed up as a prompt of its own.

This one is based somewhat on the Tau Commander I painted for Finnegan.

Well... the colour scheme at least... I think there are a few more crisis suits that will have a similar scheme...

...

At this point I started jumping around a bit. No one said they had to be done IN ORDER?! So I started doing the ones that matched the actual day of the month, and figured I'd just catch up with the ones I'd skipped by when I could..

Day 27 - Dreadnaught

Remember when these were called "Eldar Dreadnoughts"...? I do, so....

Wraithlord Melynaearian

Again, based on a miniature of my own...

Eldar Dreadnoughts (Wraithlords)

....

and then I just decided to do something else entirely...

Watch the Corners - 28x35.5cm (11x14) - Ink on Paper

The other day I was feeling like I needed to do something different. All the drawings for this, and the other challenge I've been working on have been in these little 8"x8" watercolour sketchbooks, which are fun... but I don't LOVE working that small.. and I needed to do something different.

I prepared a handful of watercolour sheets, taping them down to boards a few weeks (months!?) back, so they'd be ready for any moment I felt the urge to use them...That urge struck the other night while watching RuPaul's Drag Race with Amanda.

Still 40K inspired, but not really following any of the prompts from the 40 Days of 40K Challenge. I'm not even sure what I was thinking...? Is this a ganger in the underhive? Is it a member of a Rogue Trader's crew preparing for boarding action?! I don't know. Just a dude with a bolter and a chainsword (and his faithful servo skull companion) ready for action.

.....

I'm probably going to slow down on these going forward. I had planned on doing a critter on a bicycle AND one of the 40K drawing prompts each day until I'd filled BOTH of the sketchbooks I've been using for these challenges - which would be around the end of November. I'm thinking now I'll do a few more Critters on Bicycles to finish off the month (and then I'll have done one of those EVERY DAY, ALL MONTH! On November, to keep the momentum going, I'm going to try and still do a drawing a day, but, like just ONE - alternating between the Critters on Bicycles and the 40K drawings... and try to get back to painting some MINIATURES and PLAYING SOME GAMES!!!

40 Days of 40K

While I haven't been painting a lot of MINIATURES this year, I have been doing a LOT more drawing and painting - you can see all the stuff I've been working on over at my art blog: Tim's Art Blog.

This month I'm working through some stuff that I thought I'd share here as well, though - a 40 Days of 40K Drawing Challenge!

I came across the list posted on Twitter on Tom Boyle Illustration's profile (@PandaFunkTeam).

I probably won't post stuff here every day. Perhaps every few days... If you want to see them as they're being done, you'll have to check in on the Art Blog or my Instagram or Twitter or Tumblr accounts!

Here's what I've done so far...

Day One - Space Marine

This is a Marine of the Tangermarine Chapter - It's the homebrew chapter I've used for a few of my Marine models. The very first plastic Space Marines models I had from Games Workshop, WAAAAAAAAAY back in 1989...? I painted orange. I still love that colour for Marines. It kind of says; "We know you know where we are and we WANT you to know we know and that we DON'T CARE that you know, because we're just THAT badass... Go ahead and shoot first, we'll be the ones shooting last"

Those first ones I did with a simple stylized jesters head and called them The Emperor's Jesters. I may have worked some purple into their livery as well...? But so many others have called their chapters Emperor's Jesters, I had to come up with something new. So... Tangermarines. It's kind of silly and stupid... But man, I just can't take little space men wargames all that serious. There was a real tongue-in-cheek-ness to so much of the original 40K Rogue Trader stuff that's kind of stuck with me all these years.

Day Two - Chaos Space Marine

I was kind of going for the older Renegade Space Marine look, but keeping with the purple-ish hues of the Emperor's Children. I had thought of doing a Noise Marine, but that's got it's OWN spot on the list at Day 30!

Day Three - Eldar

That first box set of plastic Space Marines was my first experience of Games Workshop/Citadel Miniatures WArhammer 40,000. I'm not sure we even had the Rogue Trader BOOK in at the Wizard's Corner in Saskatoon. I think I also picked up a pair of gretchin and squats - that were briefly produced under licence by Rafm, I think...?

As actual metal Citadel 40K miniatures trickled across the ocean and into Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in the late 80s, it was the Eldar that were my first true love... and my first true force. They were PIRATES back then - much like the recent Corsairs. And the following first of their Shuriken Catapults was BRUTAL.

I probably only had about 20-30 of them, plus a las cannon on a tripod, and a dreadnaught (Wraithlord)... and a handful of Harlequins - that I STILL have! But it was a force to be reckoned with!

Day Four - Tyranid

Tyranid Warrior and Genestealer (and Genestealer Cultist) all show up later in the prompt list, so I wanted to stay away from those.... So I chose a Carnifex. Apparently this Carnifex's mom didn't teach baby Carnifex not to play with it's food. Little does that poor Carnifex know, that the tricksy Commissar has already set her plasma pistol to overload and in a few short moments they will both be vapourized in a ball of gas that will flash bright as the sun for the briefest of moments...

The Commissar is not afraid. She is only sad. Sad that in this moment of sacrifice her duty to her beloved Emperor on Terra ends.

The Commissar is serving with the 222nd Guaiacan Commando Regiment on Brynd's World, where the regiment encountered elements of Hive Fleet Haemorrhoid!

Day Five - Ork

I was imagining this as the REd Sunz Warboss leading troops on Xoxigar Secondus. I'd think up some more fluff for them if I wasn't so damed tired...

Not doing a lot of miniature painting done while working on these, though...

Horror, Harlequins, and a Vivandière - a Painting Update

I have been painting... a little bit...

The first two items are things I actually painted a couple months ago, but just didn't get around to posting. I was waiting for... something else...? to get finished to post along with them, but that just insn't happeneing and i want them off the workbench.

Now that I look at them, they probably need some grass tufts to truly be finished... But that isn't done at the painting table, and I just want to get these OFF the painting table...

Vivandière from Matchlock Miniatures

Horror from Reaper Miniatures.

All the Harlequins and other Eldar on the workbench. I've got most of the first new troupe of Harlequins done and the other two that I have are well on the way (and the final troupe should be arriving soon!)

These three are pretty much done.

These three... just about there... just needing a detail or highlight or two...

Ugh... Why did I think harlequins would be a good idea!?

40K - Harlequins - Troupe of the Eternal Lament

I decided, with the new Aeldari Codex including the rules for Harlequins, it might be time to expand the Dance of the Midnight Effusion Kill Team into a full 40K Patrol Detachment - or even a Battalion!? Also, the new White Dwarf (#474) includes revised rules for Harlequin Kill Teams, so that required some reorganization.

40K

The Current Troupe - Troupe of the Eternal Lament

(The Dance of the Midnight Effusion was the name of the Kill Team - which amounts to a single Troupe of Players. So I thought I'd keep that name for the Troupe of Players and say they are part of the larger Troupe of the Eternal Lament).

So far, all I've done is re-base miniatures I already had. These are harlequins from the original box set that I bought back in the late 80s. I rebased all of the Character models onto 32mm bases - to differentiate them from the Harlequins of the Troupe dancers.

Troupe Leader - Dwol'yyk'faldyl'ven'yaksak'de - the Master of Ceremonies - armed with .Shuriken Pistol and Aeldari Power Sword. AS with most of the Character Models in the force, The MAster of Ceremonies will likely be given a Pivotal Role, but I haven't selected one yet.

Shadowseer - Vylindal'min'zyl'fadyll'wenyl - Vision of the Dark - Shuriken Pistol, Mistave, Hallucinogen Grenader Launcher (This is the biggest "counts as" - as none of the weapons this model is carrying really matches what the current Shadowseer is supposed to be carrying... Ah, well, I probably won't EVER be playing competatively with these, so hopefully no one will care!)

(Actually, I think this is currently the ONLY "Counts As" - I do have a lot of unpainted harlequins carrying odd weapons - laspistols, WEBBERS, etc!? - Any of those with weird things, I'll just call Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade - the Standard Gear)

Solitaire - Klin'fylindil'myrsutyl'zenob - The Lonely Loner - Solitaire's Weapons

Fun thing about the 9E Codex - Solitaires in the previous edition were armed entirely differently than this original Solitaire and so it would have been odd fielding this one, clearly armed with Harlequin’s Kiss and  a Neuro Disruptor when the standard-no-options-loadout was Harlequin’s Kiss and Harlequin’s Caress. But in THIS edition, the standard loadout with no options is "Solitaire's Weapons". I wish MORE troops has more generic sounding weapons listed....

Death Jesters - these are all independent Character models (i.e. each is a separate Unit), from left to right:

  • Mal'wynairfel'Zenvodnyl -- Harvester of Sorrow - Shrieker Cannon, Jesters Blade
  • Reafryln'adyl'prybt - Fearless Reaper - Shrieker Cannon, Jesters Blade
  • Brakyl'dylil'narfatess - Remorseless Scythe - Shrieker Cannon, Jesters Blade

Troupe - Dance of the Midnight Effusion

  • Wilk'nes'fyl'ori'nos'del'ven - The Bard - Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • Me'del'wik'felyk'pard'trum - The Merchant -  Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Embrace
  • Wilk'nes'fyl'ori'nos'del'ven - The Bard  - Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • El'wisq'vi'gwith'nel'nor - The Queen - Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • Dar'lyk'vel'fro'dow'nyel'zen - The Witch -  Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • Vok'no'fel'pred'zyl'wen - The Prince -  Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • Mya'den'freg'lad'zyp - The Maid -  Fusion Pistol and Harlequin's Kiss

For now, I can currently field them as a Patrol Detachment:

HQ (1-2)

  • Troupe Master (1) - Shuriken Pistol, Aeldari Power Sword, Plasma Grenades - 4 Power
  • Shadowseer (1) - Shuriken Pistol, Mistave, Hallucinogen Grenader Launcher - 5 Power

Troops (1-2)

  • Troupe (6) - Assorted Weapons - 4 Power

Elites (0-2)

  • Death Jester (1) - Shrieker Cannon, Jesters Blade - 3 Power
  • Solitaire (1) - Solitaire's Weapons - 6 Power

This is only 22 Power, but any of the character models can be given a Pivotal Role - which gives them an additional special rule (that only ONE can take in an entire force) for one extra Power Rating. So I can make it a 25PL Detachment by making three of them Pivotal Role characters.

I do have enough minis to make three more Troupes, which would mean I could field them as a battalion detachment, if ever I got around to PAINTING them!?

If I had the additional 18 minis painted to make 2-4 more Troupes, they could be fielded as a 40 Power Battalion Detachment:

HQ (2-3)

  • Troupe Master (1) - Shuriken Pistol, Aeldari Power Sword, Plasma Grenades - 4 Power
  • Shadowseer (1) - Shuriken Pistol, Mistave, Hallucinogen Grenader Launcher - 5 Power

Troops (3-6)

  • Troupe (6) - Assorted Weapons - 4 Power
  • Troupe (6) - Assorted Weapons - 4 Power
  • Troupe (6) - Assorted Weapons - 4 Power
  • Troupe (6) - Assorted Weapons - 4 Power

Elites (0-6)

  • Death Jester (1) - Shrieker Cannon, Jesters Blade - 3 Power
  • Death Jester (1) - Shrieker Cannon, Jesters Blade - 3 Power
  • Death Jester (1) - Shrieker Cannon, Jesters Blade - 3 Power
  • Solitaire (1) - Solitaire's Weapons - 6 Power
Again, Pivotal Roles could be given to six of them for a total of 46 Power... I guess I need ONE more group of 6 Troupe Players to make 50 Power... (I should probably worry about painting THE ONES I HAVE before seeking out any new ones, though...)

KILL TEAM

The most recent White Dwarf included new Kill Team rules for Harlequins! So far I have only glanced at the Kill Team organization rules. So, the Dance of the Midnight Effusion Kill Team has been reorganized as follows

  • Wilk'nes'fyl'ori'nos'del'ven - The Bard - Lead Player -  Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • Me'del'wik'felyk'pard'trum - The Merchant - Player -   Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Embrace
  • Wilk'nes'fyl'ori'nos'del'ven - The Bard  - Player -  Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • El'wisq'vi'gwith'nel'nor - The Queen - Player -  Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • Dar'lyk'vel'fro'dow'nyel'zen - The Witch - Player -   Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • Vok'no'fel'pred'zyl'wen - The Prince - Player -   Shuriken Pistol and Harlequin's Blade
  • Mya'den'freg'lad'zyp - The Maid -  Player - Fusion Pistol and Harlequin's Kiss
  • Vylindal'min'zyl'fadyll'wenyl - Vision of the Dark - Shadowseer - Shuriken Pistol, Mistave, Hallucinogen Grenader Launcher
  • Mal'wynairfel'Zenvodnyl - Harveter of Sorrow - Death Jester - Shrieker Cannon, Jesters Blade

Next Up? I have units of Howling Banshees and Guardian Defenders on the workbench (along with a hundred other things - but the Howling Banshees and Guardian Defenders are closest to the front and most likely to be worked on...) that I only need to finish 2-3 minitures for to complete units - and then have a complete Aeldari Force that's useable with the new Aeldari Codex

Aeldari Expansion

I've been working on the Assuryani again - the Craftworld Aeldari. Partly because I've had new ideas about where to take the narrative in the Xoxigar System... But, the hint of a new Codex and New CORSAIR models might have had something to do with it as well.

I haven't really painted any NEW minis - though there are a few on the workbench - to finish up existing units! This is mostly bringing the rest of the currently painted Aeldari up to the current basing standards - as with the Biel-Tymm Combat Patrol Force I did last September.

It started with the Warp Spiders of the Shrine of the Mean Red Spiders - lead by Exarch Nyswandir

I'm not entirely sure WHY I started with them... but that's where I started.

I decided to do the unit in two base colours that were reversed - five that had blue bases with purple rocks and five that had purple bases with blue rocks. I wanted them to have a similar look that echoed each other and wouldn't look weird when operating together... but could also be fielded as two separate units of five - and have distinct bases to differentiate them.

First group - with Exarch Nyswandir.

Second Group - no Exarch.

I actually have TEN MORE Warp Spiders I could paint up some day... but I think I'll finish up some of the other aspect warriors first!

Next I did a squad of Dire avengers from the Shrine of .

These all have orange bases, but I did five with green stones and five with pink stones... in case I ever wanted to field THESE are two separate units of five... I'm not sure why I would...

Finally I got to work on finishing up the Wraithlords.

Wraithlord Kloethades

Wraithlord Phinyndros

Wraithlord Melynaearian

The whole rebased force - so far!

(not including the Super Heavy Detachment of Tempest/Scorpion Tanks

I have four Howling Banshees to finish up to make a unit of ten of those.

I also have a weapons platform and two gunners to finish up to complete a unit of ten Guardians.

I have a unit of Wraith Guard that just need to be rebased - but I need to get some 40mm bases for them!

After that... things need a bit more painting!

I have based and prepped a few Phoenix Lords: Jain Zar, Fuegan, Baharroth, and Karandras (these are the only ones I have). I have also based a squad of ten Striking Scorpions and the additional ten Warp Spiders (though, as mentioned, they are VERY LOW priority).

Still to be rebased, AND painted, are fifteen more Scouts, two squads of Guardians, two Dire Warrior Exarchs (if I wanted to have exarchs in each of the potential four units of five) three or four more Warlocks and some Swooping Hawks (nine) and Fire Dragons (eight) - need a few more of each to make full units.

That's about it...

I feel like I want to chip away at these and finish them all up this year and be DONE with them.

(Oh, I guess there are also the old Armourcast Eldar TITANS I picked up a few years ago and still haven't finished painting... but that's for some other time... )

(and SO MANY other things!?)

Clue Tokens

Not a lot going on here, hobby-wise. I've been pretty busy with the Birbs of Saskatchetoon project.

I've worked on a few things... but haven't really finished much up. I

did finish one or two things... but thought I should wait until I have the rest of the unit finished...

Haven't even been playing many games....

Here is SOMETHING, though...

I finished up a few Clue/Treasure tokens.

One... or... maybe two... of them might have been done for some time, I'm only just getting around to posting them now.

I've been rebasing more Eldar a lot lately - and a have a few minis I'm working to finish up (to complete units) Maybe when I'm done a few more - or finished the entire force (that I have painted so far) done I'll post pictures of those.

A Few More Epic 40K Minis

I finished up a few more Epic minis over the weekend...

Four plastic Whirlwinds.

Seven metal Vindicators (I already have another painted for a total of eight). not sure if any of those things out front count as a Siege Shield...?)

All of these will probably be organized into two Spearhead detachments of four Vindicators and two Whirlwinds. I can't seem to find my Apocalypse rules. But I'm pretty sure Spearhead Detachment can have a maximum of six Heavy Support - of which all of these are... (so I can't put ALL the vindicators in one big detachment!)

Here's something odd... I have a detachment with four squads of Terminators... and a captain n terminator armour. To transport those Terminators I thought I'd use Land Raiders... unfortunately Terminators are Elites and land raiders are NOT considered Transports - they're considered Heavy Support! A Vanguard Detachment can have up to SIX Elites, but only two Heavy Support... A Spearhead Detachment can have up to SIX Heavy Support... but only two Elites!? WTF!?

I also finished up a couple more Eldar bikes. The two smaller elements will be more Warlocks on Skyrunners to lead Squadrons of Windriders. The larger is a Vyper I've painted up in motley to use as a Voidweaver for my small detachment of Harlequins.
