March Games

Well... February was a bit of a bust..

We were kind of slow to get things started in March, cancelling Warhammer Quest the first two weeks, and then moving it to Wednesdays in hopes that might work better.

Thursday, 12 March 2026

Vera (the human formerly known as Orion) had some extra time off so we met up to give Warcry a try.

You can read about the game here:

Warcry - No Quarter!

Saturday, 14 March 2026

On Saturday it was Amanda's turn to give Warcry a try!

You can read about that one here:

Warcry - Cursed Relic

January Games

I played a few games this past month. Here is what I got up to...

Saturday, 3 January 2026

For the first game of the year, Amanda and I played a game of Age of Sigmar - Spearhead format. I am less keen on Spearhead these days, but I had recently finished painting all the necessary units for the Nighthaunt Cursed Shacklehorde, so Amanda gathered her Sylvaneth Bitterbark Copse and gave battle. We played in Shyish using the Sand & Bone gaming pack and fought in Dolorum. I managed to squeak out a victory - in terms of victory points... but there was very little left of my force at the end of the game... while most of Amanda's army was still intact and on the field of battle...

You can read more about the clash here:

Age of Sigmar: Spearhead -  Sylvaneth and Nighthaunt in Dolorum

It was confusing to Amanda to switch back to Spearhead, because so many things are just slightly different than regular Age of Sigmar, which she was just starting to get her head around... We should probably just stick to regular Age of Sigmar... If I finish up more of the Spearhead armies I own... we could just use them for really small games of Age of Sigmar. Or I just play Spearhead games against Orion or others...

Sunday, 4 January 2026

Sunday we got in our first game of Soulbound this year - carrying on with our What We Do in the Realm of Shadows campaign - where our undead "heroes" were still trapped in the Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch's Silver Tower!

Saturday, 10 January 2026

On Saturday, Amanda and I walked over to our friends', Shannon and Kevin's, and played a game called Kingsburg - which I have never played before.

In it you are a noble house and trying to gain influence at court to gain resources and build infrastructure and raise troops...

The troops are to fight off invading forces that come every winter. Some of the infrastructure you build helps with that as well... but ultimately the game is decided by victory points. Some of which are from infulence gained or buildings and infrastructure built. There are annual awards for who has the most infrastructure built and who beat the enemy the most...

I kind of felt like I was flailing and had no idea what I was doing most of the time... but somehow did rather well... I think a lot of it came down to the influence roll (3d6) and how you used your dice. I had incredibly average dice rolls. Amanda had more than a few turns with utter crap rolls... otherwise I think she would have done much better...?

Tuesday, 13 January 2026

Tuesday we were back to playing Warhammer Quest after a bit of a break. Still trying to finish up the Cursed City - Night Wars campaign - this was the last of the Pillage Journeys! Next the heroes would face Kritza the Rat Prince in a Decapitaton Journey, and then, if that was successful... face all three of the Vampires again in a final boss battle!?

Finnegan and I were both very, VERY tired and had pretty low energy and enthusiasm for this game... I had kind of considered postponing it... but then it would have taken even LONGER to finish off the campaign and I kind of just wanted it wrapped up... so we played on!

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 13 - Pillage Journey

Tuesday, 27 January 2026

After ANOTHER break (and cancelling a few other games!), we were back to playing Warhammer Quest. Getting SO CLOSE to finishing the Cursed City - Night Wars campaign! This evening the Heroes faced down Kritza the Rat Prince!

It was a two-part scenario... first they had to defend Haven against assaults by Kritza's minions...

Then they had to go hunt down Kritza, himself, in his palatial estate!

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 14 - Desperate Frenzy Decapitation Journey

There is only one more Journey to play to finish up Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars... but that will have to wait until February - and then it's on to Warhammer Quest: Darkwater!! (If I can get the miniatures finished!!)

Kind of a slower month... at least compared to DECEMBER!!

December Games

These are the games we got to play during December of 2025.

We played a LOT of games in December!

(Shortly after this post goes live, there will be another, longer Look Back at ALL of 2025)

(I'm a bit behind on the game reports... if there's a spot that seems like there should be a link to a game report, but the link hasn't been hyper-textified, I just haven't gotten to it, check back in a few days... or... weeks...)

Tuesday, 2 December 2025

In the afternoon, Matt and I played another game in our Path to Glory - Ravaged Coast campaign! This was the fifth battle I've played in that campaign. In this game, my Blades of Khorne and his Stormcast Eternal forces were in a race to get to the entrance to a pass through the Adamantine Chain of mountains, and hold it. You can read all about that here:

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast -  Storm the Pass

If that weren't enough for one day, I also played a game of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City with Amanda and Finnegan in the evening!

This journey went poorly... they just couldn't get enough of the diregoyles or gnaw bone strays in time before time ran out... and then just before it did RADUKAR THE BEAST made his first appearance in the campaign!? You can read about that one here:

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 08 - Sabotage Journey to the Knucklebone Tolls

Wednesday, 3 December 2025

On Wednesday, Sean stopped by to play a Ravaged Coast - Path to Glory game. He'd started out with a Nurgle force, but decided to switch it up and try Daughters of Khaine! You can read more about that battle here:

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast - Rise Through the Ashes

Originally I'd had another game with Matt scheduled for Thursday... but Thursday morning he wasn't feeling great and had to cancel... which was okay, because it gave me a chance to catch up on some Game Report writing!

Friday, 5 December 2025

And on Friday Sean was back again for another game of Age of Sigmar?! This time he brought another new army - a pair of MEGA GARGANTS (and their two pet frost-sabres)! The two gargants raided the Bloodbound's camp!

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast - Ransack the Encampment

Saturday, 6 December 2025

Saturday morning, I convinced Amanda to play the quick rematch-swaperoo she'd suggested after the last time we played Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Champions the Trading Card Game - where we switch decks. Because she wasn't sure if the Order deck she'd played was just terrible... or if it was some incredibly bad luck-of-the-draw... or if she just didn't know how to play it (because I'd beat her three times in a row with the Chaos Deck).... I think it was a mix of a few things. The Chaos deck IS powerful and can deal a LOT of damage. But also, I pick up systems quickly, but then plateau as I hit the limits of what my lack of executive functioning abilities and atrocious working memory can do. Amanda is a bit slower to figure things out, but then beats me all the time.

We were still in the Amanda-Figuring-Things-Out phase, as I beat her in the first game I played with the Order deck (and her playing Chaos). (I will admit, I also got fairly lucky with the cards I drew that just happened to deal out some CrAzY damage right off - and knew where to play them to gain the most advantage!)

Sunday, 7 December 2025

For Sunday, Amanda and I had planned to get in another game in our own little Path to Glory campaign, but the day kind of got away from us and we had tickets for the theatre in the evening, so we just played a couple more quick games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Champions - the Trading Card Game. Again I played with the Order Deck and she played with the Chaos Deck. I won the first game, but it was very, VERY close (like I had less than five health left when I finished her off) in the second game she just hammered me down... I was feeling like this may have been the end of me winning these games!

We decided the next time we played we'd try out something different. Like trying the Death and Destruction pre-constructed decks! Soon I think I want to start constructing decks of my own, though. Having played the Order deck three times, I feel like it's not nearly as well constructed as the Chaos Deck - one of the champions requires healing for the first step of his quest... but there are only THREE freaking cards in the 20 card deck that do any healing!? Two of them are spells that telegraph the healing - needs two rotations until it can heal - giving the opponent plenty of time to try and block it! How are they to EVER complete their quest and reveal their blessing!?

Monday, 7 December 2025

On Monday, Amanda and I had planned AGAIN to try get in another game in OUR separate little Path to Glory campaign...

And I spent some time in the afternoon, between baking muffins, to sort out a scenario and start setting up a game... only to be informed by Finnegan he had, without consulting calendar or family, made plans with friends to play board games in the Game Room on Monday evening...

Initially I'd told him they'd have to play on the kitchen table as I was all set up down there... but eventually relented and PUT IT ALL AWAY again...

And AMANDA AND I played Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Champions... AGAIN... on the kitchen table...

This time we tried out the OTHER Grand Alliance decks Death and Destruction. We ended up playing three games. Amanda and I each won one of the first two, and I won the third. All three games were VERY close - these two decks seemed much better matched. Amanda seemed keen to play more of the Death faction. I suggested I was ready to start building decks with the cards from the booster packs!

Tuesday, 10 December 2025

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Nightwars

You can read about it here:

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 09 - YET ANOTHER Sabotage Journey

Wednesday, 11 December 2025

Amanda and I had ANOTHER game of Age of Sigmar planned - to play the next battle in our little Path to Glory campaign... but AGAIN... things just weren't working out, so we SWORE we'd play on Sunday and then just played a few games of Age of Sigmar: Champions TCG. I tried to quickly make a few custom decks! I built Amanda a Death deck with two vampires (a female one on foot, and a male one on a Nightmare), a Spirit Torment and a Wight King (just like our Role-Playing Game group!). I quickly through together a Nurgle-themed deck for myself!

It was a bit slower going... I build a LOT of healing into both decks. Almost played through my deck!

Friday, 13 December 2025

Orion was in town for the day, so we got in another TWO games of Age of Sigmar - for the Ravaged Coast campaign.

First we played Twisted By Rage - a Gnaw's Edge Battleplan where I had to hunt down her General and assassinate them! I succeeded at doing so, and thus winning a Gnaw's Edge Battleplan, could start playing Hateful Shores Battleplans!

Second we played  Along the Crumbling Coast - a Hateful Shores Battleplan. This one was an objective control game with an interesting set-up locations and terrain that was potentially deadly.. Orion won that one and was now in the running to win the campaign - as soon as they could find someone else that had won a Hateful Shores Battleplan!

You can read about it here:

Path to Glory - Ravaged Coast - Twisted By Rage

Path to Glory - Ravaged Coast: Along the Crumbling Coast

Sunday, 14 December 2025

FINALLY, Amanda and I got in our next game of Age of Sigmar for our own Path to Glory campaign! We incorporated most of the rules from Path to Glory - Blighted Wilds, I'd picked up the day before... you can read about the game here:

Age of Sigmar - Counter-Attack at The Blood Pines

Tuesday, 16 December 2025

Tuesday we were back playing Warhammer Quest - and this one was a Decapitation Journey to destroy Carmilla DuSang!

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 10 - Decapitation Journey: Carmilla's Doom

Thursday, 18 December 2025

Orion was back in town a bit early for the holidaze (blizzard kind of shut down work!) so we got in another game of Age of Sigmar - for the Ravaged Coast campaign. You can read about the battle here:

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast - Assault on the Sea Cave

Afterwards I got her to try out a game of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Champions (the Trading Card Game). Despite playing for the first time with a deck she was only seeing as she drew cards... totally won... (as I kind of expected she might - she's played a LOT of Magic: the Gathering and is just really good at these sorts of games!).

Sunday, 21 December 2025

Sunday afternoon Nick and Orion came over to play in our Age of Sigmar: Soulbound role-playing game (involving exactly zero Soulbound!) with Amanda and Finnegan...

Later, after pizza, we (Nick, Orion, Amanda, and myself) tried out the new Spearhead Doubles rules! Orion brought both of her Soulblight Gravelord armies (Bloodcrave Hunt and Deathrattle Tomb Host) and Amanda and I played Sylvaneth and Stormcast, respectively.

Spearhead - Doubles

Monday, 22 December 2025

Monday we played a four-player Age of Sigmar MEGABATTLE to wrap up the Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast Campaign. You can read all about it and see all the pictures here:

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast - Raid on Hel's Claw

Tuesday, 23 December 2025

Tuesday, Amanda, Finnegan and I played our regular Warhammer Quest: Cursed City game! This time we were on to hunting Kritza the Rat Prince and doing Pillage Journeys.... Which were similar to Deliverance Journeys in the first campaign, except instead of running through the streets of Ulfenkarn ahead of a Suffocating Gravetide, the heroes were running through the streets of Ulfenkarn ahead of a HORDE of rats, burning buildings and stealing stuff! You can read more about it here:

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 11 - Pillage Journey

Saturday, 27 December 2025

Brent and Barb stopped by in the afternoon and brought along a newish game - Pergola! You build a garden in it...

This was my garden at the end of the first game

This was may garden at the end of the second game.

It was fun.

Tuesday, 30 December 2025

In the afternoon some friends I haven't played games with in AGES stopped by to try out the new Warhammer Quest: Darkwater. We played through an abbreviated version of Act I. Everyone seemed to have a good time and both visitors expressed an interest in playing again! Hopefully I'll get them back to play through a campaign some time in the new year (ideally after I get the rest of the minis painted!)

There will be a full game report here:

Warhammer Quest: Darkwater - First Game - Abbreviated Act I

If that weren't enough gaming - or Warhammer Quest - Amanda, Finnegan and I also played our weekly Cursed City game later in the evening?!

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 12 - Another Pillage Journey

And that was it!

Which WAS a LOT!!

Twenty-Seven Games!

  • Warhammer Age Of Sigmar (Fourth Edition): Core Rules x9
  • Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Champions Trading Card Game x8
  • Warhammer Quest: Cursed City/Nightwars x5
  • Pergola x2
  • Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound x1
  • Warhammer Quest: Darkwater x1

What did YOU get to playing this past month!?

Did the Holidaze afford you time to get some games in?

Or did non-gaming-festive-social-obligations eat up all your time and energy?

Let me know in the comments!!

November Games

Wow... November is done... where did this year go!?

Here are the games I got around to playing in November

Sunday, 2 November 2025

On the second we kicked things off with Episode Five of our What We Do in the Realm of Shadows Campaign! In this episode the Characters ran into Neferata herself and were given a new mission, bumped into some old rivals, recruited a Duardin Necromancer, and fought a pair of Pusgoyle Blightlords!

You can read a bit more about it here:

What We Do in the Realm of Shadows - Episode Five

Tuesday, 4 November 2025

After a bit of a break, we were back to playing Warhammer Quest this week... and... it did NOT go well. This was the first scenario facing Carmilla DuSang and the scenarios are TOUGH!! Things went poorly pretty much from the start and all four heroes were out of action by the third or fourth round!!

You can read about that debacle here:

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 05 - Sabotage Journey

Wednesday, 5 November 2025

After Amanda's singing lesson, we tried playing a quick game of Age of Sigmar - using mostly rules for a Path to Glory/Narrative type game - i.e. NOT SPEARHEAD! I played my Maggotkin of Nurgle force and Amanda was playing Sylvaneth. The scenario involved the Sylvaneth defending a Soulpod grove from the Maggotkin!

You can read about all the action here:

Age of Sigmar - Defending the Soulpod Grove

I also made a map and a page with more information about the campaign:

Path to Glory - Methervale Campaign

Tuesday, 11 November 2025

We got in another game of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars on Remembrance Day. This one went considerably better than the previous week's game. It was still TOUGH... but not only did they survive... they SUCCEEDED!!

WHEW!!

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 06 - Another Sabotage Journey

Wednesday, 12 November 2025

Wednesday I somehow talked Amanda into another game of Age of Sigmar!? We played the second game in our Path to Glory narrative campaign. It was another brutal defeat for the forces of Nurgle... you can read all about it here:

Age of Sigmar - Ambush at The Blood-Pines

Monday, 17 November 2025

Monday I rode over to Dragon's Den Games to meet with a fellow named Matt to play some Age of Sigmar - kicking off a Path to Glory - Ravaged Coast campaign!? You can read all about that here:

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast - Light the Fires

Wednesday, 19 November 2025

I played a second game against Matt and his Stormcast Eternals later in the week, but this time at my place. You can read about THAT battle here:

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast - Standing on Skulls

Thursday, 20 November 2025

If TWO games weren't enough Age of Sigmar for one week... Orion was back in town and wanting to get in on the Path to Glory action! So we set up a game on Thursday afternoon, then ended up playing TWO!!

You can read about those games here:

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast - Blood in the Valley

Path to Glory: Ravaged Coast -  Rift in the Peaks

Sunday, 23 November 2025

We also got in another episode of What We Do in the Realm of Shadows while Orion was in town. Note the Great Unclean One hiding behind my GM screen! The "heroes" were attempting to disrupt a number of Nurgle followers from performing a summoning ritual that would bring said Great Unclean One into Shyish... check out the game report to see how successful they were... or... not..

What We Do in the Realm of Shadows - Episode Six

Tuesday, 25 November 2025

After another week off due to Finnegan needing to focus on schoolwork, we were back at it this week... (actually, when Finnegan left for campus, he thought he might be late again and we should probably postpone, but later in the afternoon texted to say things had gone well and he'd probably be home early enough to play! So we did!). This was a rather sad week, as the party lost another member. They are now down to four of the original eight. If they lose one more, that's the end of the campaign! you can read all about here here:

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 07 - Sabotage Journey to the Deadnooks

Thursday, 27 November 2025

In the evening while everyone was out, I sat down to do a little solo play-through of Age of Sigmar: Champions the Trading Card Game for funsies... you can read more about that here:

Age of Sigmar: Champions TCG

Saturday, 29 November 2025

TANKSGIVING

This was the BIG EVENT I had painted up that Great Unclean One for!! It was... not a terribly LONG even, for which I am grateful... it could have been a LONG SLOG if there had been too many people there with a lot of standing around... Overall, I'd say a positive experience. Would do again... but probably NOT bring a Great Unclean One again! You can read a bit more and see the pictures here:

Tanksgiving 2025

Sunday, 30 November 2025

There was Originally a plan to play Age of Sigmar with Amanda... But then I just didn't have the energy or time to set that up... but she was willing to try out Age of Sigmar: Champions - the CARD GAME!

We ended up playing three games. The first one took over an hour... the next two were twenty minutes or less! I played with the Chaos pre-constructed deck and Amanda played with the Order pre-constructed deck. Chaos won all three. It deals a LOT of damage... I'm not sure how the order deck is supposed to deal with that...? It doesn't seem as well constructed as an easy-to-play, ready-made starter deck. Amanda suggested next time we play three more and switch decks... so... at least she's willing to PLAY AGAIN!!

Whew! that's quite a few games I played this past month!! I hope I get to play even MORE through December as we all get a bit of a break over the Holidaze! At the least I expect Amanda, Finnegan and I might get in a few extra games of Warhammer Quest and perhaps Amanda and I will continue with our little Age of Sigmar campaign...? And hopefully we'll get to try out the Rise and Fall of

What games did YOU get to play in November!?

Let me know in the comments!!

Age of Sigmar: Champions TCG

It has been a LOOOOOOOOONG time since I have played a Collectable Card Game or Trading Card Game... I have to admit, I have never actually played Magic the Gathering! I played a lot of IlluminatiL New World Order and a bunch of other weird, smaller CCGs after the bit CCG bubble burst and you could get starter decks for $3-5 or packs for 50¢ or $1... Like Rage (the werewolf game) or Dune or Kult or Mythos..

I had a lot of stuff for the Star Trek: The Next Generation CCG and one edition of Legends of the Five Rings... just because I could pick up stuff cheap... but never actually played either!?

A few years back, I discovered there had been a licensed Age of Sigmar collectable card game called Champions. At the time I was able to pick up a booster display for less than $20 (CANADIAN!?). I did some snooping around though and it was hard to find the rules (though I did eventually find some... but they'd been downloaded as screen shots from an app and lacked diagrams...) another thing I found suggested that you NEEDED the starter decks to play (I'm not 100% sure this is true... but it would be tricky to pick up enough blessings just from one booster box to play any of the factions.

The Starter Decks just seemed too expensive... the cheapest I could find was $22 + $12 shipping and that was for Destruction (the faction deck of least interest to me... and they just went up from there... and I'd probably need at least two...)

At some point I found someone selling a set of all four for $85... which was a bit more reasonable in terms of per unit cost... but it was STILL paying $85 for a game that may or may not suck and may or may not ever get played more than once... or... EVER!? (not that that has stopped me from buying games "on spec" before... but I'm TRYING to be more reasonable...)

Last week I found that same seller was now selling starter displays (8 starter decks, two of each) for $85... so...

I bought the starter display...

Now.. it it NOT lost on me that I've STILL payed $85 for a game that I could conceivably never play...

But I've got twice as many started boxes now!!

I could give half of them away to potential opponents!

The starter comes with a pre-constructed deck that is supposed to be playable, a booster pack (the first taste is free!), a much more readable set of rules, and a fold out paper playing matt... which isn't the highest quality... but will probably be handy for a game or two then entirely discarded once we all figure out where stuff goes.

I wondered if this maybe came out BEFORE Warhammer Underworlds...? To maybe test the waters to see if Warhammer fans might be interested in deck-building games...? But checking the dates on Board Game Geek, this game was released the year AFTER Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire was released. It still seems crazy to me that there are new CCGs being released in this day and age... Okay it was seven years ago... but still, I thought everything that wasn't Magic the Gathering (or maybe Pokemon?) died off in the 90s or went the "Living Card Game" route that did away with random booster packs!

Because Amanda has been busy this week, I haven't been able to get her to sit down and try it out with me (and Orion is out of town for work), so I decided this evening maybe I should just sit down and try a solo play-through to see how it works... So I busted out the Chaos and Death pre-constructed decks and set up a game.

The only thing about solo gaming, I can't stand my opponent...

Ugggghhh... this fucking guy... I swear he's cheating...

I can't honestly tell if this guy is genuinely dumb as fuck or if he's just "weaponizing incompetence"... Moron.

Anyway... seems like a fun little game that will play quick enough when I'm not trying to play BOTH sides... Solo gaming kind of works for me, I have such garbage working memory that by the time I walk around to the other side of the table to play the other side, I've completely forgotten what cards I had or what plans I'd been making moments before. Unfortunately, it takes forever, because I walk around to the other side of the table and have to re-read all the cards on THAT side and try to figure out what the hell I'd been planning... or if I'd had a plan at all!? Ultimately I end up having to come up with a whole new plan!?

Isn't that just my luck... playing Khorne and all I got is a hand full of SPELLS!?

(there is a Tzeentch Champion in the Chaos deck - that is otherwise MOSTLY Khorne stuff - and they can cast the spells... but spells take time and you can't just fire them all off in one turn!?)

The basic rules seem simple enough to follow... but getting the right card combinations at the right time, so you can get the timing of them right for it all to GO OFF... that's the tricky part!

I swear, Amanda will lose the first two games, complaining viciously about the rules and how she just doesn't get it... and then I will never win a game again in my life...
