The Scenic Route

Recently I was shooting another tutorial video, this time involving some scenery and some hairspray. Here are the stills I shot of the finished piece..I'm kicking myself for coming across this scheme a little late into the game, having painted a large amount of the same scenery previously here. But that's what experience will bring you.

Enjoy!

WIP Stormwall Part 1

For the last three years I've painted up a colossal for the P3 contest at Gencon. This year I plan on doing the same and this time I chose the Stormwall. I like the Cygnar scheme but wanted to deviate a little from the norm so I aimed for more of a warmer turquoise blue.

Once the airbrushing was done I started blocking in the metallic areas.

For the base I wanted to make something a little less wartorn and muddy. I had the idea of a more serene walking garden area in mind. Which will look a little plain until I add the foliage. I traced out the footprint on a piece of corkboard and went to work. All those botched banners I've been saving were finally going to be put to some use.

I also rolled up some pillar shapes from some milliput. They don't need to be perfect as I'll add some moss and vines to cover up the simplicity.

WIP: Archaon the Everchosen Part 4

Archaon has set a new record for number of posts. I promise the next time you see him he will be finished, hopefully, y'all have appreciated seeing this project come together. There were many moving parts to manage which had me painting out of order throughout the project. Which at this moment, finally, is glued to the base :)

There is a lot of what I would describe as venting on the body of Archaon's mount. Also, some visible skulls and helmets of sigmarines showing through the skin. I've heard differing opinions on the model but my impression is that, being a gift from the various gods, the body was created first, to receive the heads, and incorporates magic similar to that used to building a golem. So the body is basically a bag of molten skulls from slain enemies. A sick ride indeed, bro.

First, some white lining was applied  to the vents.

Second, you probably guessed it, was to paint yellow over the white lines. After that I brought out the airbrush and added an orange glow around all the venting and exposed skullz.

The final touch was to apply and inkwash, mixed from yellow and white.

I still have more highlighting to do on the carapace but felt it was appropriate to finally attach the base. This was a moment of glory for me.

Just a lot more of a little work to go and the picture will be complete. Can't wait for those final touches :)

Infinity City Day 1

Almost a year ago I scored some scenery from Mantic Games. The Sci-fi quadrant to be exact and it was a massive load of scenery, at a great price too. Enough to cover a 2 x 2 foot area. Brother John and I trimmed and assembled it over time while we were learning the game of Infinity. It's been great and we've been having a lot of fun with it but it doesn't look like a game until everything is painted. This the first batch and definitely not the last. I already want more Mantic kits and there is a need for some smaller elements that will come in the form of shipping crates and dumpsters.

It all started off with a ghost coat, for the city and bounty hunter as well :)

Finally, a proper chance to use some masking tape and stencils from Brush for Hire.

Coming together nicely so stay tuned, a little more detail and a little closer to complete next time.

Preppin and Steppin to the house of Teknes

This piece has been floating around my workspace for too long now.
It was a gift from a friend at last year's Adepticon and I intend to show him the finished piece this year. Wish me luck! Here are those first steps..

After the airbrush.

Bare-assed base. There is some joy in guiding the randomness of rubble :)

Set up for the Quickblend base coat.

All done and slightly wet with ink. I like the muddy look and might go for it with some glossy coats in the end.

Stay tuned! The banner comes next!

Mymera Madness, Step One

The last few days have been spent deep jamming on an Eldar army for my buddy's Adepticon dance :) Come along, loyal reader, for a story told by pictures! And words!

So lets begin at the end, here they stand at present day, waiting for some brushwork. This post is also made with my phone, so if it looks different, that's why ;)

33 Jetbikes and 10 Warp Spiders, I started off with the spiders to get the project moving and also because they have their own paint scheme, being aspect warriors.

Once I had a decent start on them I turned my attention the the mass amount of waverunners. Trying something a little different with them by applying the white portion of my primer with an airbrush. This gave me a smoother undercoat to apply the turquoise on top of. After a a few tones and and inkwash, much smoother in my opinion :)

I was really able to use liquid mask and masking tape to a great effect on this army. If you don't have any, give it a try. Huge time saver.

Back to present day, waverunners ho!

Stay tuned!
