I really, really want Robespierre for this one. Reasons:
1. Based on Zar’s description of the missions, Cube’s arc seems like it will involve the most straight-up combat. Yes, Cube is pretty strong on his own, but we probably want more than one good fighter for this.
2. Even though at first glance he’s mostly muscle, Robespierre has shown in the baseball chapter that he’s actually surprisingly good at planning and leadership, once he puts his mind to it.
3. I find the notion of a rough-and-tumble barbarian defending the fancy royal palace to be hilarious.
I don’t feel as strongly about the second character, but I picked Prestige simply because she’s my favorite character that hasn’t appeared yet in Rusty or Mimic’s arcs. I suppose she should cover the other two’s weaknesses well enough.
Am voting for the (literally) bloodthirsty loony and the irritable giant man, Ezra and Robespierre.
It just seems like it’d be a weirdly fun combination to me, especially since Ezra’s terrified of Cube, so could probably be ‘persuaded’ to help. And Robespierre’s just enjoyable in general.
Slobber and Ros seem like a good way to clunk any issues, and slobbers nose for things seems a good choice for finding a spy based on what they find due to the scents..
Going to vote for Drago for partner 1 on this one; the guy was antagonistic and ruthless but not actually villainous; just on the other side; and it seems like he’d be more amenable to/with working for a cube then many as well as both clever and rough-and-tumble to deduct as well as defend. I’d like to see his outsider’s approach to the situation.
And for partner 2… Dorilys, edges it over Prestige to me just because she hasn’t really had much spotlight so far.
I’d also have liked to see Golden Gus again, I just think the mission is wrong for him.
There’s a link to the Inktober stuff in the Loot section of the site. I think it was something Mike posted on his twitter, but that was before I started reading the comic. The new Patreon wallpapers are another one of Temper’s adventures. They’re a lot like Inktober, but in full colour.
I’m tempted to vote for Cube’s Wife and the “Young cube met in the first dungeon”, just so we have three completely silent protagonists who don’t talk at all, and seeing what kind of story the writers manage to swing with that. XD
I voted for Temper because she has exactly one (anonymous) canon appearance so far (rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-105) and I think it would be exciting to see more of her in the main comic. She’s also a bit of a wild card because we the audience are less sure of her personality due to the fact that she has never been seen in a dialogue scene, although we are able to tell that she’s fairly bold and finishes what she starts. As an alchemist, it’s likely she’ll know and have some useful things up her sleeve… And also she’s this strip’s only tiefling character. Tieflings are awesome and we have literally never seen another one.
Also, it could definitely be interesting to see how she gets along with the other characters, and maybe find out where she’s actually been in relation to the other places we’ve seen.
(If you’re wondering, my other choice was Prestige Perkins. She knows the palace, has many things up her sleeve, and is also an interesting character.)
Tieflings might be legally murky after the whole Mindflayer thing. Mike could still put similar character types in, but he’d have to call them something else.
Looking at those illustrations, she seems like a really interesting and fun character and I’d definitely like to get to know her — but I think she deserves to be introduced in a chapter of her own, like the other ladies were, rather than just being one of several sidekicks in a multi-chapter story arc.
I voted for the baseball t-rex and patina, because I think it’d be very funny to have an arc where none of the three main characters can speak common. Because apparently I am very mean.
I voted for the mermaid from 1-30 and the elf from CM#4. We’ve seen that Cube can basically do anything, including a spy thriller. Since that’s what he’s in, here, what he needs is a couple of Cube Girls to round out the plot (all puns intended 😉 )
Cube. Green Cube.

I think this situation calls for some diligence and security, specifically of the absolute and total kind.

Seconding Drago, although I voted Temper for partner 2
Who’s Temper?
According to the cast page, she’s from “Inktober content”, which I don’t recall ever seeing anywhere.

I am once again voting for the baseball T. rex from Level 8.

This tempts me beyond what I am able to resist
Dorilys and Schmetts, for a “Green/Fairy” team.
Schmetts was up there on my list too, but she didn’t quite beat out Presti.
The 1/30 mermaid is cool (esp. for an one-shot joke), but with Schmetts and Ezra, it’s hard to vote otherwise.
Cube has a wife? This I have to see.

I voted Prestige Perkins and Drago for an adversarial buddy-cop thing.
I’d like to see more of Patina and Dorilys.

Derek and Presti. Bring the firepower.

Poll’s closed. I’m looking forward to finding out who won.
