Rambly post ahead, crew. Hard to starboard.
OKAY. We are back in business! ...Sort of. See, I got my laptop repaired by the dude at the computer shop on the highway, but the screen is too dark to see from and he tells me it isn't worth it to put any more money into this particular machine, and I believe him. However, I rerouted it to the monitor of my dad's computer in the basement, meaning that my system is functional but no longer portable, and it's really cold down here. But I'll survive. This is all a temporary solution, as I will definitely need to purchase a new laptop in the near future. I need a jooob. Nnrgh.
In other news, I've just finished Chuck Klosterman IV, which is brilliant and hilarious. There was an article in it about the difference between an archenemy and a nemesis, and I've decided that my nemesis is Zack Kretchman, but I can't figure out who my archenemy is. It will come to me. It's sort of a refreshing revelation, though, because I've always wanted a nemesis. I never realized he'd been sitting in the front row of Social Problems all along.
Been doing some writing, albeit slowly because longhand escapes me after so much time on keyboards. I need to work on that. Mostly I've been doing original stuff, but I've sketched out a bit of the Conis/Nami fic I promised two people I would write. I need to download the last couple chapters of the Skyepeia arc and/or have someone fill me in on a few details in order to make it work cohesively. It's coming along, though. Oh, and I've hit a well of slight inspiration for my badass Blueno fic, but that's coming more slowly. Updates at 11.
Saw Cloverfield. Holy shit, was that ever awesome. I've been bitching about the lack of truly good monster movies lately, and this seriously fulfilled my jones for a good rampaging behemoth-fest. I was, however, genuinely surprised by the fact that, outside of being a good monster movie, it was a good movie period. I actually came away from it feeling like I'd gained insight into something (thought I'm not as of yet completely certain what), which I've always thought is what a good movie was supposed to do. My only complaint was that the style of cinematography (purposefully rudimentary) made me physically nauseous to kind of a serious degree, but I still want to go see it again, so take that as a mark of how awesome it was.
I still need to see Sweeney Todd, though. I may have to wait until it goes to the cheap theater, but it's sort of made up for by the fact that it'll be, well, cheap. Maybe I can drag Noah along with me. He's promised to stop being a reclusive, snarly hermit. We'll see how that works out.
