I'm glad that 1951 seems like another universe; it should have been.
I've been reading sections of a school textbook for girls written in 1951 called On Becoming a Woman, by Harold Shryock, M.A, M.D. It has a chapter on homosexuality, entitled "Beware!"
So we're off to a rolicking start right there.
But the best part is the first line of the chapter: "There is a freakish trick of human nature by which a woman sometimes "falls in love" with another woman, or a girl with another girl."
I tell you this so you will understand what I am about to tell you, that being that I am suddenly struck by the mad desire to draw a picture of two girls in poodle skirts and bobby socks, kissing, and call it "Freakish Trick of Human Nature".
I believe that I shall do that first thing tomorrow. For now, I will read the rest of this chapter in order to be baffled for my own amusement while playing One Piece AMVs as background music.
Also? We've come a long way, kids. Be proud of that much, and hang on tight for the rest of the ride.
