Ruwan van der Iest
I am currently employed as a lecturer in Ancient Greek language at the University of Groningen (Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies). My research is dedicated to the Aramaic papyri from Elephantine Island.
My current research focuses on questions related to the (cultural) identity of the Judean community and the (origins of) the legal tradition attested in the Aramaic papyri.
Further interests of mine include papyrology, legal history, interaction between ancient legal systems and linguistics related to the Semitic languages (specifically Akkadian, Aramaic and Hebrew).
After completing a MA degree in Classics and Ancient Civilizations (Assyriology) at Leiden University and a MA degree in Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Groningen, I obtained my Ph.D degree in January of 2023 at the University of Groningen.
