Структура
Утвердительные предложения

1. If + Past Simple + would + bare infinitive

 If I had more time, I would spend it with you.

 If my mother worked at least one day in her life, she would understand me.
 If Sam did her homework, she would get better grades.

2. If + were + would + bare infinitive

Такую конструкцию мы используем в основном для совета, когда хотим

заметить, что бы мы сделали на месте другого человека.

 If I were you, I would be jealous.

 If you were a doctor, you would definitely save other peoples’ lives.
 If Frank were more attentive, he wouldn't make a lot of mistakes in his
letters.

Можно употреблять и модальные глаголы вместо would.

 If I were like my granny, I could solve any problem.

 If you were rich, you might donate some money to charity.
 If you were an adult, you would have to work every day at least from 9 till 6.

Отрицательные предложения

1. If + Past Simple (negative form) + would + bare infinitive

Здесь мы имеем отрицание в самом условии.

 If Mary weren't so bad at biology, she would become a good doctor.

 If your cat didn't eat so much, it could catch that mouse.

2. If + Past Simple + wouldn’t + bare infinitive

Когда возражение возникает в части с результатом, мы добавляем

отрицательную частицу not к слову would.

 If we won the lottery, we would not work anymore.

 If you had a bike, you wouldn’t use a taxi.
 Вопросительные предложения

Хотя Second Conditional можно чаще увидеть в отрицательных и

утвердительных предложениях, вопросительная форма все равно
встречается.

Обозначает воображаемое действие в прошлом, невозможное действие в
прошлом, сожаление о прошлом или критику по поводу выполненного
действия

If + Past Perfect (had+V3) + would + have+ V3
If he had studied better, he would have got a job.
If you had called me, I would have come. – Если бы ты позвонил мне, я бы
пришёл. (но ты не позвонил)
В обеих частях условного предложения можно использовать отрицания
If + hadn’t + V3 + wouldn’t + have + V3
If I hadn't phoned you, you wouldn't have known the news.
If we hadn't known him, we would have believed him. – Если бы мы не знали его,
мы бы ему поверили.
Вопросы могут стоять только в части-результате
Would + have + V3 + if + Past Perfect (had+V3)?
Would you have known the news if I hadn’t phoned you?

Would you have believed me if I had told you about it at that time? – Вы бы мне
поверили, если бы я рассказал вам об этом тогда?
