Daniel Peachey
What is he up to?
It's been a very long time since I last updated this (again). Discipline is clearly not my strong suit. Anyway, right now:
I am:
- unemployed and looking for a new job in Information Security, preferably remote
- hoping to get my experience verified to complete my CISM certification application
- doing life admin stuff such as pension consolidation, wills, de-cluttering, and tidying the garage
- enjoying Spring revving up with Daffodils abound, and buds on trees and shrubs everywhere
I have been:
- playing Stardew Valley (extremely addictive) and Lorelei and the Laser Eyes (a Metroidbrainia, one of my favourite game genres) on my Switch 2.
- listening to much less music recently for some reason, but the new Gorillaz album is very good, as is the new Voka Gentle.
- reading many books as usual. So far this year, this has included the second and final books in the Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin (good, but I'm not convinced fantasy is my favourite genre), and the entire Lonesome Dove quadrilogy by Larry McMurtry. I'd read Lonesome Dove many years ago and loved it, and have now read the series in chronological order: Dead Man's Walk, Commanche Moon, Lonesome Dove, and Streets Of Laredo. Lonesome Dove is still the best, with Dead Man's Walk being second best. As always, these and more are all listed on my TheStoryGraph feed!
- re-watching The Good Place following a trip to Athens where some of the finale was filmed and we happened to stay in hotel room number 322 - the same number of residents in the Good Place neighbourhood. Coincidence, but a good excuse to revisit a favourite. I also took Twin Peaks Day as a good excuse to finally start another rewatch of the original Twin Peaks. If you want a newer show recommendation, you can't go wrong with Mackenzie Crook's new comedy, Small Prophets.
- watching almost no films, but did finally get to The Zone Of Interest (horrible/great), Bugonia (fun but not Yorgos' best work), and The Station Agent (good, but in that 00's gentle introspective Indie-movie style).
I will be:
- reading Francis Spufford's new book Nonesuch, having thoroughly enjoyed his other novels, Cahokia Jazz in particular.
- playing Blue Prince now it's finally out on Switch 2
- trying to think about the many birthdays and anniversaries coming up for friends and family
