Application of Data Mining Techniques on EMG Registers of Hemiplegic Patients

The analysis and treatment of these data is difficult and time consuming. This work applies and explores exhaustively different analysis methods from data mining on these gait data. This study aims to provide a classification system based in gait patterns obtained from EMG records in children with spastic hemiplegia. The methods studied from data mining specifically for the classification task include SVM, neural networks, decision trees, regression logistic models and others. Different techniques of feature extraction and selection have been also employed and combined with classifications methods. The LMT algorithm provides the best result with 97% of instances classified correctly taking into account the indicators for 2 legs. A qualitative and quantitative validation were performed on the data.

The development of these tools is itself a significant software engineering task, requiring a considerable investment of time and resources. There are a large number of different kinds of automated software engineering tools, variously known as CASE, CAME, IPSE, SEE, and metaCASE tools. Although these tools differ in the particular methods, activities, and phases of the software development cycle to which they are applied, constructors of these tools often face similar implementation issues. Decisions about host computing platform, implementation language, conformance with standards and reference models, choice of repository, integration and interoperability mechanisms, and user interface style have to be made. This minitrack is based around the experience reports of researchers and practitioners actively involved in software engineering tool development.

A lot of them have been driven with only the data given by government institutions. In this paper, the authors attempt to describe a general procedure to convert any group of data into a graph, where the application of the Least Square Method can provide a mathematical formula that can be used for different situations and purposes including improving the current graphs of the disease.

These set of processes, when arranged in different orders, characterize different types of life cycles. When developing a database, the order of these tasks is very important to efficiently and correctly transform the user's requirements into an operational database. These SDLCs are generally defined very broadly and are not specific for a particular type of application. In this paper the authors emphasize that there should be a SDLC that is specific to database applications. Database applications do not have the same characteristics as other software applications and thus a specific database development life cycle (DBDLC) is needed. A DBDLC should accommodate properties like scope restriction, progressive enhancement, incremental planning and pre-defined structure.

A Critique of Validation/Verification Techniques for Software Development Measures
Workshops in Computing, 1992

Validation checks the predictive abilities of a measure against a dependent variable while verification checks the reasonableness of the measure. The software community has developed many measures but has usually failed to properly validate and/or verify the measures. This paper critiques current verification and validation methods including the shotgun approach, which correlates many measures against one or more dependent variables; the dependent variable approach; the controlled experiment approach; the foundation approach, which views software measures as mathematical entities to be studied and analyzed; the intuitive approach; the exploratory approach, which uses factor analysis; the goal-oriented approach, which produces measures of the quantities to optimize; and the defacto approach.
