About This Blog

Hello This, unfortunately, is a partially retrospective diary/blog of my Challenge and Homemade Locks (CL). This is an extension, maybe a replacement for my original Google Docs Diary!

I got the ‘nudge’ to do this from PickSmith. Odd, as I have been blogging since 1999! I will do my best to say what I was thinking at the time of creating the various CLs. This is very much a work in progress.

My Philosophy Organic! I try to get to know the lock and reflect its original state (that sounds like bullshit, sorry). For instance, if the target lock has a key, I will keep the original key and its bitting. If the lock doesn’t have a key I will either find a sympathetic lookalike or make one that ‘gels’ with it and the theme.

After making Easy Bird, I’m always concerned that I’m in the process of buggering up the lock and making it easier to pick.

I want to inject humour – I am not into death or horror symbolism, or infantile cartoon anime shyte – but most importantly, I want to express myself as a ‘garage’ craftsman-artist and tell a story. I can be a bit political sometimes! For me it’s all about the conversation.

Just to say Progressive pinning a challenge lock is totally against the ethos of challenge locksport – in my opinion. If you can’t pick it, you don’t get see the so called jewels inside.

Please see my Challenge Lock Guidelines.
