Burnt Timbers

Eyes heavy with smoke
Lit by the world in flames
Desperado winds
Windowless crying
In despair for the doves
Nesting in burnt timbers
A widow in the window
Shaking the ash
Out of stringy hair
A tornado in the scream
A restless whisper
In a fucking nightmare
Torn from the headlines
Of broken fragments
Society in ferocious silence

Scattered among Skeletons

Birthed out of light and wires
Humanity’s surviving legacy
Digital roots
Takes hold across the world
Winding through deserts and dust
Like old world snakes
Iridescent wings fly above
With photovoltaic cells
Featherless AI birds
While broken ancestors
iPhones, laptops and tablets
Lay scattered among skeletons

Emotions and Tears [Free Verse]

You enter my mind
Less often—
That is good
I’m no longer haunted
Day and night

Now, you are just another voice
In the digital wilderness
My world no longer
Revolves around the pain of
My love for you

Once again,
Radical acceptance

Yes, my feelings do linger
But they no long scream
At me

Tearing me down
In the dark
At night
Sleepless

When they rise
I accept what cannot change
And distract myself
When I can

But it doesn’t always work
Like now
The isolation is a yoke
The pandemic rages

While I worry about you
And your loved ones
I worry about my own kin
And the world, more

That’s my heart, now
Emotions and tears
