A long time ago,
I had friends I thought I would
See everyday

No Freedom From Sorrow
My mind wanders
Down the rabbit hole
Thoughts better pushed aside
Mixed with raw grief
I must not spiral
Out of control
So, I write
I free verse
Haiku, and acrostic
Until my mind shuts down
So, I don’t think of the pain
The sadness,
The anger,
Or the damn hubris
Of the fucking world
I cried myself to sleep
Last night
No freedom from sorrow
It will linger for a while
I will find comfort
With family and friends
I must avoid the dark places
And the rabbits
In my mind
That has to be the hope
Dad, I miss you
Hope [Acrostic]
Heroes
On the
Phone
Everyday

The Multitude [Micropoem]
The flock rises
Into the sky
The sun glows
On their feathers
A soul departs
Carried aloft
To the heavens
On the wings
Of the multitude

Sad [Acrostic, Haiku]
Suddenly, he’s gone
All of us feel a dark void
Death took him too soon

Childhood Friends [Haiku]
Ally [Acrostic]

Let all people
Love each other, and
Yearn for an inclusive world

Five-Hundred Years [Free Verse]
In a sacred grove,
of the city of Silverleaf
I sit alone in repose
Eyes closed
Lost in the reverie
Memories of my youth
Old companions
Long gone
Lost to wars and strife
Brothers and sisters, all
Dvalin, Thessa, and even
Wild Cheng-Dû
The paladin, Mojo, in Celestia
A human wife, my half-kin child
And my kin, in Arvandor,
Brother, Joshian, sister, Teal,
Stubborn Dabuk,
Now with his mother and father,
All at rest
So many gone
“Bactra, it is time,” a voice rises
Rikin stands before me
Ancient, grey, and stout.
“Time is an illusion,” I say
The dwarf nods
“Nevertheless,”
I use my magi staff
To stand, “The others await
And hope we don’t fall.”
We are legends now.
An army gathered to stand
With the last of us,
Heroes of the Tiger
Dabuk always hated that name
Jeddar stands ready with Firewalker
They keep our legend alive
As does my daughter, Krystelle
“We are ready father”
The portals open with a thought
“Kulan will not die today.”
But, maybe this time I will,
And join my kin in Arvandor
Ache of Bones [Free Verse]
Dust on the road
The wind stirs the prairie grass
I stand near the tracks,
That cross the highway
The grain elevator is a ghost
Its shadow looms
The wind whips the dust
I shield my eyes
While my mind tries to shield
The hurt inside
My bike isn’t a steed
Just and escape to nowhere
No hunting bottles and cans today
Only riding with friends
Until our bones ache
We circle our home, this village—
They say it takes a village
But not all villages are equal—
The day wanes
Each one of us,
Pedals home one by one
Until the light is fading
There is supper and TV,
Hockey on a Saturday night,
Homework on Sunday
‘Time for bed’ comes soon
A cat rolls up behind my knees
Purring a soothing sound
I drift away to imagined worlds
To stand with heroes—
Created with my friends—
On the plains of Malecade
Or high in sky on dragonback
My true escape
Awake,
Monday morning brings a different
Ache of bones

Peacemaille [Found Poetry]
Forgive others.
Not because they deserve,
Forgiveness,
But because you deserve,
Peace.
