especially on romanesque and gothic portals, b... more Medieval polychromies have frequently disappeared,
especially on romanesque and gothic portals, but the
archeological study of the façades of the abbey of Cluny has
revealed a part of its colours and gildings. Other studies of
portals bring now interesting information about the period
between 1120 and 1220. The project “Romanesque portals in
3D in France” has allowed to study and to make laser scanning
of a series of prominent masterpieces, some of them preserving
also colours, such as Conques.
The monumental Holy Chapel of Dijon (13th-15th cent.),
destroyed in 1802, has been reconstructed in 3D thanks to a sery
of twenty documents. The questions of coloring this masterpiece
are various (walls, glass windows, sculpture). The laser copy of a
genuine sculpture by Claus de Werve (15th cent.), now presented
at the MET in New York, allows to study the making of medieval polychromies.

A laser scanning has allowed to make an exact copy of the statue of Claus de Werve (XVth cent.) and the polychromy has been realized in oil painting.
Arts picturaux en territoires catalans (xii e-xiv e siècle) Approches matérielles, techniques et ... more Arts picturaux en territoires catalans (xii e-xiv e siècle) Approches matérielles, techniques et comparatives L 'étude matérielle et technique des arts picturaux du Moyen Âge n'est pas en soi un champ d'investigation nouveau : les peintures murales, les panneaux peints et les manuscrits, de même que la statuaire polychromée ont déjà fait l'objet de publications. Plusieurs générations de chercheurs ont défriché le chemin et tracé des « iti-néraires », travaillant le plus souvent de manière isolée, ignorant ou presque les restaurateurs qui ne recherchaient pas forcément la discussion. Par ailleurs, les techniques ont évolué, elles se sont affinées grâce aux recherches scientifiques. Aujourd'hui, l'historien de l'art, le restau-rateur, le conservateur du patrimoine et le scientifique se côtoient plus aisément, dialoguent, échangent leurs connaissances qui, ainsi, de façon interactive et pluridisciplinaire, progressent au profit des oeuvres. Le programme factura rassemble ces forces vives qui confrontent leurs points de vue, leurs approches, leurs méthodologies, afin d'aller toujours plus loin dans la connaissance des peintures léguées par nos ancêtres et d'approcher les hommes, et peut-être aussi les femmes, qui les ont exécutées.
The conference "Romanesque and Gothic portals hindered by climatic effects: laser scanning for co... more The conference "Romanesque and Gothic portals hindered by climatic effects: laser scanning for conservation documentation" has been held during November 2014 at the Institut National d'Histoire de l'art (INHA) in Paris, at the end of the research program "French Romanesque portals in 3D" which allowed a multidisciplinary team to scan about ten facades from the 12th cent. The results of the project were presented and compare with other emblematic European examples (Italy, Spain, Belgium).
