ABOUT US

This site is a companion blog to the Retro Mecha Podcast. An anime podcast focused on bringing old school mecha anime to as wide an audience as possible. The show is hosted by Ian Harper and Craig Harmer (that’s me). I will be the one maintaining the blog but with direct input from Ian.

If you’re wondering what we look like then wonder no longer. This picture was taken during our first meeting in November 2017 when I was attending the Hyper Japan Christmas Event in London. I’m the smaller guy with glasses.

Because the podcast focuses on longer pieces of anime, typically at least 20 plus episodes (and sometimes many, many more) we won’t be the sort of podcast to have an episode out every few weeks as we’re busy people who work full time jobs. To fill the gaps in the meantime we’ll try and bring you some varied content here on the blog and perhaps cover some subjects that are related to the show but we don’t have time to cover on the actual show itself.

The two of us have been mildly obsessed with anime and Japanese culture in general for most of our lives, we’re very passionate about it, particularly anything featuring robots and armoured suits. We feel that while older anime in general is somewhat undervalued by many newer fans that the mecha genre as a whole has an undeserved reputation for being unimaginative and a thing I’ve often heard from non-fans is that it’s “all the same”. We hope to dispel some of these myths and hopefully create a few new fans along the way.
