AI for Systems Biology

My research program. Systems Biology provides the conceptual framework and the domain knowledge to approach research questions and pressing problems. Within this framework and incorporating the domain knowledge, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is developed to interpret datasets from high-throughput experiments, discover patterns in the data and generate hypotheses. This strategy will enable the creation of "AI Scientists": systems capable of autonomously generating meaningful solutions.

A solution is only meaningful if it is three things: 1) Novel. 2) Impactful. 3) Socially good.

Novel. Replication of previous studies is critical for scientific progress, but only makes sense if used as a foundation for advanced, novel research.

Impactful. Cumulatively minor findings provide value, but aiming for higher impact tends to generate more follow-up research and is more efficient.

Socially good. There are things which are novel and highly impactful, but not for social good.
