Core Facilities

The Petit Institute (IBB) is a unique, interdisciplinary research and educational institute composed of state-of-the-art laboratories and globally recognized academic and research engineers and scientists.

In concert with its affiliated centers and faculty, IBB provides access to more than $400M of combined research tools and laboratories for education and technology transfer.

Researchers are encouraged to take advantage of our shared user laboratories, equipment, and expertise, and we welcome you to explore our facilities and the opportunities supported by our buildings and laboratories.

  • Electronics - Electronics not purchased with state funds can be dropped off at the Kendeda Building loading dock.Glass - Basement tunnel (next to the liquid nitrogen tanks)

  • Kimberly Clark gloves, any brand tip boxes, and safety glasses/goggles - ES&T stockroom through Avantor (hours 8-12 p.m. and 12:30-4 p.m.)

  • Paper, sticky notes, and paperbacks - IBB common kitchen areas outside Wing D on each floor
  • Pens, markers, and other writing tools - By the lobby elevators
  • Plastic bags, bubble wrap, air pouches, plastic mailers, packing peanuts, Saranwrap (all food removed) - IBB 1st floor kitchen by vending machines
  • Plastic bottles/containers (please no plastic bags/film as those items should be placed in the “plastic film” bin by the 1st floor kitchen) - IBB common kitchen areas outside Wing D on each floor
  • Steel food cans and metal lids - IBB admin suite kitchen (1105)
  • Styrofoam (please remove packing tape and labels) - Outside all IBB research wing doors facing the atrium
  • Compostable items such as food scraps, pizza boxes, etc. using the CompostNow bins (full list below). IBB admin suite kitchen (1105) or ES&T Loading Dock

Waste Reduction and Recycling for Labs
  • Pipette tip racks, lids, and cell culture plates packaging recycling-this program enables labs to mail recyclable materials without having to separate paper and plastic, supporting waste reduction.
