"My dreams have always been loud. But without the right people believing in you, they can get quiet real quick."

How Mentorship Shaped AJ’s Vision and Voice
At seven years old, Anibal “AJ” Ramirez Mateo, Jr. entered the Yawkey Club of Roxbury as a quiet observer. Nearly a decade later, he is a finance student at Bentley University, the founder of his own streetwear brand, and a mentor to younger members who remind him of exactly who he used to be. AJ’s journey is inseparable from the people who showed up for him along the way.

Exploring the World of Biotechnology with Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute
It is nearly impossible to get Club members away from the microscopes. That is how Dr. John Doyle, Education Director at Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI), describes what happens when young people from Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston sit down at a professional-grade microscope for the first time and look at their own cells. The curiosity is immediate. The excitement is contagious. And it happens not in a school lab or a university building, but right inside their Club.
“These opportunities help build critical thinking, confidence, and a sense of belonging in STEM, while connecting young people to careers that have historically been less accessible.”
MIchele May
Board Chair, Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI)
“We’re not waiting for families to find us. We’re showing up in their neighborhoods, in their housing developments, in the spaces where their lives unfold. When we remove barriers, we create possibility.”

Ignite
From Club to Hub
Deepening Impact Through Everyday Connection
By early morning in South Boston, before most of the neighborhood has had its first cup of coffee, the Edgerley Family Club is already alive. The gym echoes with a men’s league basketball game. Downstairs, students from a nearby school splash into the pool for morning swim lessons. Upstairs, community members fill meeting rooms. By the time the first young person arrives in the afternoon, the Club has already served dozens of neighbors. Across Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB), a new phase is taking shape. BGCB is not simply expanding access. It is reimagining what a Club can be: a place with extended hours, shared spaces, and a deeper presence in the neighborhoods it serves.
None of our work would be possible without our incredible community of supporters.
