Citizens of Cowessess First Nation honour traditional protocols—ceremonies, songs, and gatherings—passed down since time immemorial. From birth, each person receives a “soul flame” from the Creator to guide the body, mind, and spirit. These customs and laws form the foundation of Cowessess culture, providing guidance for ceremonies and community life.
The Miyo Pimatisowin Act restores Cowessess’ authority to uphold its language, culture, and values through teachings of the medicine wheel—mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. The Coordination Agreement strengthens the partnership between Cowessess First Nation, Canada, and Saskatchewan, uniting them like strands of sweetgrass to support children and families under Cowessess’ care.
