Random Position
Here you can determine a random location on Earth. This is done by a random choice of coordinates for the identification of a position on our planet and the display of this location via Google Maps. The first value of the coordinates is the latitude, the second is the longitude.
This site is the digital version of the old method "close your eyes - turn the globe - point your finger on it". The chance to end up in the sea is pretty high. This is, because our blue planet has a lot of water - 71% of its surface. So the chance of randomly hitting land is only at 39 percent. If you find yourself in the sea or ocean, you can either zoom out until you see land and take this, or you can simply try again.
If you use this tool for planning your vacation, please don't blame us, if Taklamakan Desert or central Greenland or so are suggested ;). But seriously, this is of course not intended to mean that you actually travel to the found location.
The random selection of coordinates works as follows: a line of any longitude with a certain thickness (one centimeter, for example) would take up the same area everywhere on Earth, so the probability should be the same for each longitude. A random value between 0 and 180 is determined, and a minus sign is placed in front of it with a 50 percent chance. It is different with latitude; here the area of a line with a certain thickness decreases towards the poles. The Earth has its longest latitude at the equator, and the further north or south you go from there, the shorter they become. A value between 0 and the square root of 90 is therefore randomly determined for the latitude, and this is then squared. This increases the chances of lower values, but values up to 90 can still occur. Then a minus sign is placed in front of it again with a 50 percent chance.
