Prism Calculator

Calculations at a right prism. A prism is a polyhedron with two parallel, exactly opposite, congruent bases.
Enter prism height, perimeter and surface area of the base and choose the number of decimal places. Then click Calculate. The two similar bases can be any polygon (e.g. a regular hexagon), whose values you can determine with the according calculator.

Euclid Height (h): Right Prism
Example: hexagonal prism
Bases: polygons
Joining faces: rectangles
Base perimeter (p):
Base surface area (As):
Prism surface area (A):
Volume (V):
Surface-to-volume ratio (A/V):
Round to    decimal places.

Formulas:

A=2As+hp
V=Ash

Height and perimeter have the same unit (e.g. meter), the area has this unit squared (e.g. square meter), the volume has this unit to the power of three (e.g. cubic meter). A/V has this unit -1.

A special case of prism is the regular prism, which has a regular polygon as its base. If the base is a triangle, the result is a right wedge. If the base is a square, the prism is a square pillar. Cuboids and cubes are also special cases of prisms with a four-sided base, as is the rhombohedron and the parallelepiped. A more general form is the oblique prism, where both bases are offset but not twisted. The antiprism, on the other hand, has twisted bases; at the uniform antiprisms, regular polyhedra are twisted by half a corner relative to each other. Then there is the prismatoid or prismoid, where the side surfaces can be not only rectangles, but also triangles and trapezoids.
The term prism is particularly well known from optics. A prism made of glass or another transparent material refracts light and divides it into the individual colors of the rainbow. Prisms used for this purpose usually have the base of a triangle. The light shining in is refracted on two sides of the triangle and the different colors take different paths.
