Recalcitrant Daze and the Horus Heresy

This evening I started to get my Orks out to see what needed to be shifted.

While doing that I got seriously side tracked in getting out everything I have picked up for my planned Horus Heresy armies. These are a Zone Mortalis Adeptus Mechanicum force and a larger Death Guard army.

I have been picking up bits here and there for some time but not started building anything as yet. My main aim was to get other things finished first before starting another project.

But while I had everything out I thought I would take stock as I really hadn't been keeping track that well.

Adeptus Mechanicum.

This is a 1000 point Zone Mortalis force. So all infantry and walkers.

I'm a big fan of the FW Adeptus Mechanicum range, they have done a great job of getting the vibe of the AM without going the easy route of just taking the usual Imperial vehicles and units and sticking on a cog symbol or two.

So for my force we have the following:

Myrmidon Secutor which will be the Magos leading the force.
Two units of Thallax
Castellex (off ebay).
Vorax squad (also off ebay actually).
Domitar.
Scyllax Guardian Automata unit.

I will be starting these guys soon - as the Orks are on their way out I want a new ZM force asap.

Death Guard.

Ok. At this point it gets a bit embarrassing.

I have been picking up units and models for this force since FW launched their Heresy range. I may have got a bit carried away, spreading the purchases out so much means it is surprisingly easy to lose track...

It took two pictures to get everything in.

In this lot we have...

x5 Legion Mk. III sets.
x1 Mk. III Heavy Weapon set (don't remember buying these)
x2 Mk. IV Destroyer with Jump Packs c/with x2 sets of Death Guard Mk. IV Shoulder Pads
x1 Mk. III Breacher set
x1 Mk. III Command Set.
x1 Mk. III Wepon Set.
x1 Rapier (it has crew in Mk. III armour so had to get it)
x4 Mk. III Death Guard Shoulder Pad sets.
x3 Umbra Pattern Bolter sets.
x1 Volkite Calivers.
x1 Volkite Culverins.
1/2 set of Flamers, 1/2 set of Melta Guns, 1/2 set of Plasma Guns (I split three special weapon sets 50/50 with Sheep I think)
x1 Death Guard Heads.
x1 Death Guard Torsos.
x2 Deimos Pattern Vindicators.
x1 Death Guard Brass Etch.

In the second picture we have:

x1 Mortarion
x1 Typhon Super Heavy Tank.
x1 Calas Typhon
x1 Leviathan Dreadnought
Leviathan Weapons - Storm Cannon, Grav Flux Cannon, Siege Claw
x1 Death Guard Contemptor,
x1 Relic Contemptor.
x1 Plastic Contemptor (Calth set)
Resin Contemptor Weapons - x2 Lascannon, x2 Plasma Cannon, x1 Assault Cannon, x1 Multi Melta, x1 CCW, x1 Volkite Culverin, x1 Conversion Beamer, x1 Cyclone Missile Launcher (might be a bit over the top with all those).
x1 Apothecaries Set.
x1 Narik (Show Only figure).
x2 Castellex (from ebay)
x1 Grave Wardens unit.
x1 Deathshroud unit.
x1 Death Guard Cataphractii Shoulder Pad set.
x1 Plastic Cataphractii Terminator unit (Calth set).

The plastic Calth Termies may not end up with the Death Guard but the fact I picked up some DG shoulder pads for them has probably decided their fate...

I would hate to know how much that lot totals. A ridiculous amount I am sure. I may have an addiction.

Actually it was quite handy getting everything out, it's allowed me to get a fix on what is needed to be done and will allow me to plan out the squads. I really need to start these sometime soon..maybe I can get a small force together in time for the next Heresy Weekender.

Warhammer World Opening - Stuff I Bought...Tempest and Resin.

So the final, final, post about the Warhammer World Grand Opening.

Naturally I spent some money. Quite a lot, thankfully the majority for other people so I'm not at risk of losing the house.

I picked up...

Horus Heresy V - Tempest

The Warhammer World exclusive HH anthology, Meduson:

In resin we have the Event Only Princeps plus the last pieces for my Death Guard - Mk. IV shoulder pads for the Destroyer unit and some DG heads.

Not shown as they were out of stock I also have this coming...

Typhon.

Big brother to the two Vindis I have for the force.
I've had a flick through Tempest, lovely book as expected.

The Militia list looks very interesting, like the Renegade list in IA13 it has lots of options and many possibilities that can be explored.

I will be sticking with IA13 for my Militia, though I am sure when I want to play a really big game I will be able to easily re-jig them to fight alongside the Death Guard.

If you have any questions regarding Tempest ask them in the comments and i'll try and answer what ever I can.

Recalcitrant Daze - This and That.

Welcome to post 400.

A combination of things has resulted in a lack of updates recently. One is work, one is a tattoo convention and the other is the water effects I put in the board ponds.

As the water effect was taking so damn long to go off I at first didn't want to do anything near them that could spoil it (e.g. getting dust into the stuff as it cured), the boards have also taken up most of the room so I haven't been able to cast or even do moulds.

As such I've not been able to do enough on one particular project to do an update on them. But as it's been a while I thought i'd do a generally 'this is what I have done' post.

Realm of Battle Boards:

The water effect I put in finally cured. I then moved onto adding the next layer. For this I needed some new water effect, turned out GW has changed the stuff they sell. This is a problem. For a start it is more expensive (what a surprise) but the main problem is that it appears to be shit.

The first stuff added finally cured.

Basically the water effect went white - not a problem I thought as it is probably just what it does.

The problem is as it has cured in some areas it has started to peel away round the edges. As you can see in the picture below it is hardly a small thing that can be brushed aside.

The new stuff...
So I am now going to have to wait for the two pools I have added the new stuff to to fully cure so I can then peel it out without damaging what is underneath it.

So has anyone got a good recommendation for water effect? Keep in mind I have a river to fill so don't want to spend an absolute fortune on it...but on the other hand with the amount of work I have put in to building the river I won't be looking to scrimp now.

Talking of river boards I did get a bit more painting on them done. Namely neaten things up, add was to rocks in river and pick out the two skulls.

Papa Nurgle:

Sitting on my desk are a few Daemon units I have made a start on getting finished:

I know I should of begun by finishing the Plaguebearers and Nurglings I started painting a while back but to be honest I couldn't be arsed.

Big Drone, Little Drones, Scabby...
I must sort out my paints soon as well...

Talking of Daemons I have some new recruits for them which arrived yesterday...namely a Plague Hulk and a Jabberthingymejig which I plan on converting into a Nurgley Great Spined Beast.

The Hulk wasn't the only thing to arrive from Forge World, the Death Guard are almost complete (in the sense of buying all the bits, they are somewhere off being actually 'finished').

Ah, the smell of Resin in the morning.
That is that for now.

If you can give me some pointers to good water effects please post it up as it would be highly appreciated.

Recalcitrant Daze - This Still Isn't a Review Post.

So yeah, not a review post. More of a 'what-may-be-coming-in-the-near-future-type-of-post' post.

Realm of Battle Gaming Boards.

After the gaming over the last couple of days I decided not to pack away the gaming boards just yet. Even though I started these several years ago I have never had chance to finish them off. So to begin with I have poured more water effect into the pools onto the first two boards.

After these pools, and the ones on the remaining board, are filled i'll move onto the other RoB boards I have started...

Extended Hills

River Boards

Nurgle Daemons...

Awaiting my attention are my Nurgle Deamons.

Still to finish off are a unit of Plaguebearers, some Nurgling Bases, three Plague Drones, a Blight Drone and of course Scabby...

Dreadball.

The futuristic ball game is a blast to play so it seems natural to pick up a team to build.

I'm not a fan of many of the teams but the Robots caught my eye so I have those sitting on my workbench.

Fortifications.

As mentioned before I got hold of Stronghold Assault. Being a fan of all things siege-y I can't help thinking that in the coming months I will turn my hand to building something that will play a part in a defensive line.

Whether Ork or Imperial I am yet to decide...

Other things...

On top of those I have my Deathwing Zone Mortalis force to paint up...

Oh and of course the Death Guard Horus Heresy force which while I have some models for but I am still in the process of planning as you can see left and right:

I think that is everything I can think of at the moment.

Just to finish off I should mention last night I had an article go up on Bell of Lost Souls which can be found here.

Epic Distractions 1

So...I was talking to Nife (Nife's Once in a Blue Moon Updated Blog*) a week or so ago discussing the demise of Specialist Games and, well, one thing led to another.

It just sort of happened.

It has been a long time since I played Epic. I started with Space Marine 'back in the days or yore', only just missing out on the original Adeptus Titanicus (which still rankles slightly).

So this is the plan, to go back to those heady days when Epic first appeared. Going back to the roots which was of course the Horus Heresy. The army will be tied into the 30k force I am doing, namely Death Guard.

With that I am going with the original Mk's of vehicles, so things like the original Mk 1 Land Raider:

Staying with the feel of the DG the core of the force will be Tactical Marines backed up with armour, especially Vindicators and Land Raiders. Dreads will also give the Tacticals some close range punch.

A Tactical Pile Up.
Aren't they cute?
I've not really got an army list, or anything close to approaching one. Currently it is a case of picking up eBay auctions. I picked up a number of old Robots. Not sure what to use them as yet.

I am after more infantry (esp Termies, gotta have Termies) as well as more Predators (as I am two short to fielding two units). I need Vindis, plenty of Vindis. This I hope will be achieved by converting some of the Mk I Rhinos.

At the Heresy Weekender I will be picking up a couple of Warhounds. More Titans will appear at some time in the near future (fingers crossed).

* Not the name of his blog, but it might as well be.
