If you\u2019re curious about turning your Pi into a security testing tool, I\u2019ll walk you through what worked for me and how you can get started quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kali Linux is available directly in Raspberry Pi Imager, under &#8220;Other specific-purpose OS&#8221; from the operating system list. We will now go over how to install it on your Raspberry Pi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Install Kali Linux<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kali Linux has been recently added to Raspberry Pi Imager, so it&#8217;s the easiest way to install it on a Raspberry Pi. You can use this tool the same way as when installing Raspberry Pi OS. Alternatively, you can still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kali.org\/get-kali\/#kali-arm\">download the image manually<\/a> from the official site if you prefer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don&#8217;t already have Raspberry Pi Imager on your computer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raspberrypi.com\/software\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.raspberrypi.com\/software\/\">you can download it<\/a> from the official website. I generally have it on my PC, and flash all my systems from it, but it&#8217;s also possible to <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/raspberry-pi-imager-guide\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"11264\">use Raspberry Pi Imager on a Raspberry Pi<\/a> if you don&#8217;t have a separate computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s how to install Kali Linux using Raspberry Pi Imager:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Launch Raspberry Pi Imager<\/strong>, and make the following selections for each step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Device<\/strong> &#8211; Choose &#8220;no filtering&#8221; at the bottom to see all possibilities. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>OS<\/strong> &#8211; Scroll down to <strong>Other specific-purpose OS<\/strong> and select <strong>Kali Linux<\/strong>.<br>You&#8217;ll get a list of all versions available, with the corresponding Raspberry Pi models:<br><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 600px;\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/imager_v2_kali_2026-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br><strong>Select the version you want to install<\/strong> (64-bit is recommended if supported).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Storage<\/strong> &#8211; Pick your SD card (you can also <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/raspberry-pi-usb-vs-sd\/\">use a USB drive<\/a> if you prefer).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Customisation<\/strong> &#8211; click <strong>SKIP CUSTOMISATION<\/strong>, as it&#8217;s not supported at this time. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Writing<\/strong> &#8211; click <strong>WRITE<\/strong> to start the flashing process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a few minutes, Kali Linux should be ready to use, you can eject the storage device and plug it into the Raspberry Pi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-7-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: Another option is to <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/network-boot-with-raspberry-pi\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"11764\">use the network boot feature<\/a> if available, to flash directly Kali Linux from the Raspberry Pi, without the need of a previous operating system. Click the link for more details about this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting Started with Kali Linux on Raspberry Pi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No matter how you did the installation on the SD card, you are now ready to start Kali Linux for the first time on your Raspberry Pi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Boot on Kali Linux<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Just insert the SD card into your Raspberry Pi and power it on.<\/strong><br>Give it a few minutes to run some setup tasks the first time you boot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kali Linux will start directly with the login screen.<br>No questions or anything, insert, start, and wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is nothing else to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open a Session on Kali Linux<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once Kali has started, you need to log in:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1775\" height=\"954\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_login_2026.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_login_2026.jpg 1775w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_login_2026-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_login_2026-1024x550.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_login_2026-768x413.jpg 768w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_login_2026-1536x826.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1775px) 100vw, 1775px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On Raspberry Pi, the default credentials are: <\/strong><br>username = <strong>kali<\/strong><br>password = <strong>kali<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-7-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Warning<\/strong>: the default keyboard is set to <em>en-US<\/em>, which mean you may need to type something like &#8220;kqli&#8221; if you use a different layout (like I do). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are now on the Kali Linux Desktop, and we can move to the configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1777\" height=\"931\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_desktop_2026.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_desktop_2026.jpg 1777w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_desktop_2026-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_desktop_2026-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_desktop_2026-768x402.jpg 768w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_desktop_2026-1536x805.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1777px) 100vw, 1777px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is strongly recommended that you change these credentials quickly.<br><strong>You can change it by opening a terminal and typing the command:<\/strong><br><code>passwd<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keyboard Layout<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you don&#8217;t use a US keyboard, you can change it in the main menu &gt; Settings &gt; Keyboard.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the &#8220;Layout&#8221; tab and disable the system defaults.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add your custom layout. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set it by default (or remove the US layout).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But be careful, on the login screen you will keep the US layout for the moment, so choose your password knowing this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Connect to your Network (DHCP)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow this part only if there is a DHCP server on your network.<br>If not, or if you need to set a static IP address, look at the next section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ethernet:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you can connect to an Ethernet network, it&#8217;s the easiest solution: simply <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/connect-ethernet-raspberry-pi\/\">connect the RJ45 cable to your Raspberry Pi<\/a> and wait a few seconds for an IP address to be assigned to it, there is nothing else to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wi-Fi:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Raspberry Pi Wi-Fi card is supported natively, so connection to a wireless network shouldn&#8217;t be complicated either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the Kali desktop, click on the network icon at the top right, and choose the SSID of your Wi-Fi network.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"688\" height=\"271\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/kali_wifi_2025.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44068\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/kali_wifi_2025.jpg 688w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/kali_wifi_2025-300x118.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Type the password of your access point, and wait a few moments to be connected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Get the Current IP Address:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Whatever your connection mode, you can check the IP address obtained with the ip command:<\/strong><br><code>ip address<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The IP addresses are indicated on the second line of each interface, after the keyword &#8220;inet&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1012\" height=\"309\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_ip_addr.jpg\" alt=\"kali ip address\" class=\"wp-image-36098\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_ip_addr.jpg 1012w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_ip_addr-300x92.jpg 300w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_ip_addr-768x234.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1012px) 100vw, 1012px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">eth0 = Ethernet, wlan0 = Wi-Fi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">I recommend not activating both interfaces simultaneously,&nbsp;even if it seems to work. This <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/mistakes-raspberry-pi-beginners-make\/\">common mistake<\/a> led to problems with response times, probably a problem with routing (I didn&#8217;t take any longer to look at this, but disabling the Wi-Fi fixed the problem).<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n\t<p  id=\"inpost_lm_linux_commands\"><b>Tip: <\/b> Command lines can be a pain to memorize. I put the essential Linux commands on a printable cheat sheet so you don't have to keep googling them.\u00a0You can <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/downloads\/?source=rb_linux&lm=4\" target=\"_blank\">grab the PDF here<\/a> if you want to save some time.<\/p>\r\n\t<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\t\t\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Set a Static IP Address<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A static IP address will allow you to choose the IP address associated with your Raspberry Pi<\/strong>, and therefore find it more easily later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The easiest way is to use the <strong>Advanced Network Configuration<\/strong> tool from the main menu: <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"798\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_network_config_tool.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_network_config_tool.jpg 798w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_network_config_tool-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/kali_network_config_tool-768x397.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 798px) 100vw, 798px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you prefer command line, you can do it via <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/nmtui-linux-command\/\">this tool<\/a> in a terminal:<br><code>sudo nmtui<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"248\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/nmtui-kali-1024x248.jpg\" alt=\"kali linux set static ip\" class=\"wp-image-16504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/nmtui-kali-1024x248.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/nmtui-kali-300x73.jpg 300w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/nmtui-kali-768x186.jpg 768w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/nmtui-kali.jpg 1055w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In it, you can configure your wireless network, but also set a static IP if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Update Kali<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for any fresh new installation, <strong>a good practice is to update your system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kali is based on Debian, so you can use the <a data-lasso-id=\"3213\" href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/raspberry-pi-commands\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"748\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">same commands as on Raspberry Pi OS<\/a>:<br><code>sudo apt update<br>sudo apt upgrade<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the way, I had over 900 packages to upgrade, so I think it&#8217;s pretty important to do right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enable SSH and VNC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that&nbsp;we have a fixed IP address, it&#8217;s time to make our Raspberry Pi accessible from another network computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enable SSH<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In theory, SSH is already installed and enabled by default.<br>If you don&#8217;t have access, it&#8217;s probably because you need to start the service:<br><code>systemctl start ssh<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you need help with SSH, <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/ssh-password-raspberry-pi\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"145\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"3214\">look at this tutorial<\/a> here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enable VNC<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>VNC will allow you to have access to a remote desktop on your Raspberry Pi.<br><\/strong>On the latest Kali Linux versions, TightVNC server is already installed.<br>You just need to set a password:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Open a terminal or connect via SSH.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use this command to define your password:<\/strong><br><code>vncserver<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Once done, this will also start the service.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can now connect to your Raspberry Pi on Kali Linux with any VNC Viewer.<br>For example, on Ubuntu:<br><code>sudo apt install xtightvncviewer <br>xtightvncviewer 192.168.1.200:1 <\/code><br>On Windows, you can <a data-lasso-id=\"3215\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tightvnc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download TightVNC here<\/a>. <br>Don&#8217;t forget to add &#8220;:1&#8221; after the IP address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Remember that VNC is not a secure protocol, and if you use it at home it&#8217;s OK, but in a more extensive network, it is better to use it through an SSH tunnel <\/strong>for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can find more details about the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/remote-desktop-raspberry-pi\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"323\" target=\"_blank\" data-lasso-id=\"3216\">remote desktop on Raspberry Pi<\/a> in my tutorial linked here. It&#8217;s for Raspberry Pi OS, but it&#8217;s very similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-7-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: If you get a gray screen when connecting to Kali Linux with VNC Viewer, you may need to edit the startup file for VNC:<br><code>sudo nano ~\/.vnc\/xstartup<br><\/code>Paste these lines (backup the old content if needed):  <br><code>!\/bin\/sh<br>unset SESSION_MANAGER<br>unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS<br>startxfce4 &amp;<br><br>[ -x \/etc\/vnc\/xstartup ] &amp;&amp; exec \/etc\/vnc\/xstartup<br>[ -r $HOME\/.Xresources ] &amp;&amp; xrdb $HOME\/.Xresources<br>xsetroot -solid grey<br>vncconfig -iconic &amp;<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kali Linux Tools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ok, your basic configuration of Kali Linux is now ready. You could obviously use it as a standard desktop operating system, but I guess if you installed Kali, it&#8217;s probably that you&#8217;re interested in some of the default apps that come with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s list a few of them with a short demonstration of how they work. This isn&#8217;t an exhaustive list of complete tutorials for each one, but it will give you a better idea of the possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Change the MAC Address<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A MAC address is a unique identifier for each network adapter<\/strong>. It depends on each manufacturer, and it&#8217;s often used to give access to a specific part of the network to restricted computers. A DHCP server can also assign always the same IP to a MAC Address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, you can configure your Wi-Fi network to whitelist your MAC address, and prevent anyone else from connecting to it. I have a detailed article here on how to <a data-lasso-id=\"3217\" href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/mac-address-on-raspberry-pi\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3244\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">find the MAC address of your Raspberry Pi<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MacChanger is a tool that allows you to do MAC address spoofing<\/strong>, i.e. pretend to be someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Usage<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Install it if needed (in my tests it was already installed):<br><code>sudo apt install macchanger<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">See your current MAC Address:<br><code>ip addr show eth0<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure card:<br><\/strong><code>ip link set eth0 down<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Get a random MAC address:<\/strong><br><code>macchanger -r eth0<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Set a specific MAC address:<br><\/strong><code>macchanger -m XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX eth0<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reboot to reset to the standard MAC Address.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hack Wi-Fi password<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AirCrack-NG is one of the most popular tools on Kali Linux.<br>It&#8217;s a complete suite of tools to test the wireless security of a network.<br>It provides tools for <strong>monitoring, attacking, testing, and cracking Wi-Fi networks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Usage<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need to disconnect the Wi-Fi on your Raspberry Pi before starting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Then check that your network card is compatible (it is):<br><code>sudo airmon-ng<\/code><br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"875\" height=\"208\" class=\"wp-image-11041\" style=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/kali-airmon.jpg\" alt=\"airmon-ng tool\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/kali-airmon.jpg 875w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/kali-airmon-300x71.jpg 300w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/kali-airmon-768x183.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, wlan0mon<\/code><br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"616\" class=\"wp-image-1790\" style=\"width: 500px;\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/airodump.gif\" alt=\"airodump scan wifi networks\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And you are ready to this<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brute Force with Hydra<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brute force is a password cracking method, that tries passwords from a dictionary or other sources, and tries all the possibilities until it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hydra is a tool to make very fast brute force<\/strong> from Kali Linux software and that supports many protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Usage<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>First, you will need a list of passwords and put it in a file<\/strong>, like \/root\/passwords.txt (one per line).<br>You can find the most common passwords on the Internet, or generate your own.<br>For the test, just put a few random passwords manually in the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Then you can try it, for example, I have decided to brute force SSH on my computer from the Raspberry Pi:<br><\/strong><code>hydra -l root -P \/root\/passwords.txt -t 6 ssh:\/\/192.168.222.51<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I check in my \/var\/log\/auth.log, I can see tries from the Raspberry root from 192.168.222.31 port 37232 ssh2<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Packet Analyzer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A packet analyzer (or sniffer) is a tool that can intercept traffic from the network and capture it to analyze it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Kali Linux, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/install-wireshark-raspberry-pi\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"11374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">use Wireshark<\/a>, which is the most used tool to analyze network traffic.<br>It&#8217;s a graphical tool, but you can capture packets with tcpdump or something else, and then open it with Wireshark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Usage<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can find the app in the Applications menu, under <strong>Discovery &gt; Network Sniffing<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Launch the app, and then go to Capture &gt; Start.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>You will now see all packets from the network.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Click Stop when you want.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then there are many features that&nbsp;you can use to filter or analyze what you have captured:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"760\" height=\"583\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/kali-wireshark.jpg\" alt=\"wireshark packet analyzer\" class=\"wp-image-4195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/kali-wireshark.jpg 760w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/kali-wireshark-300x230.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SQL Injection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SQL injection is a technique to attack insecure applications, including injecting code into user fields that are not protected<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This&nbsp;technique is mainly used to attack <a href=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/best-database-raspberry-pi\/\">websites that have databases<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, if you replace a parameter of the URL, say&nbsp;<em>?user=yourname<\/em> with something like&nbsp;<em>?user=yourname &#8216; OR 1<\/em>. If the field is poorly protected, the SQL query will be modified and will return all the data, not just those of your user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Kali Linux, the <strong>sqlmap tool allows testing SQL injection vulnerabilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Usage<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sqlmap tool is straightforward to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You only need to put the URL of the page to test, something like this:<br><code>sqlmap -u https:\/\/www.domain.com\/?p=123<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"359\" src=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_sqlmap_injection-1024x359.jpg\" alt=\"kali sqlmap injection\" class=\"wp-image-36100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_sqlmap_injection-1024x359.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_sqlmap_injection-300x105.jpg 300w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_sqlmap_injection-768x269.jpg 768w, https:\/\/raspberrytips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/kali_sqlmap_injection.jpg 1183w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you have found a security hole, it is possible to dig deeper with this tool to see what you can get.
