Being and Becoming by Yayati Madan G Gandhi

All great poetry

but an inspiration

from higher consciousness

Not something labored

though in all sublime arts

there’s an element of craft

in poetry too craft does count

and may a difference make

to the poetic beauty and truth

Yet even the best craftsman may err

leave some gaps and holes

letting something in a sly

To creep, or cave in

spoiling its innate

artless beauty

Poetry flows from heart

with an inborn power

to heal wounds of reason

In ultimate parlance

poetry is inspired utterance

like hymnal chants of seers

Akin to the highest devotion

and mystic poetry

of the highest love

So true is the master’s advice

‘if you’re trying to write

like somebody else, forget about it’

Since poetry is spirit

in search of its wholeness

it can’t be a copy of anyone else’s

Poetry is a dream and a vision

an architecture of human life

as it has evolved over aeons

Poetry is life as if distilled

from bone morrow

of a species getting fast extinct

It’s an impassioned record

of human destiny: its travails

and upheavals over the yugas

The poet is but his/her poetry

in and through which they live

and has theirs being and becoming
