The Old Man by Robert Taub

I saw an old man the other day

He was laying on a bench

His clothes were tattered

His shoes worn out

And his had holes in it

I stopped to talk to him

And he smiled at me

He was so happy to have someone to talk to

I asked him what happened to bring him to this

So his story he began to tell to me

You see young man it’s like this

I wasn’t always like this

I was married once but she passed on

And then my world came crashing down

My children would not let me live with them

So I had to fend for my self

And I met nice people just like you

That always offered a dollar or two

But I must go now so I’ll say farewell

AS HE HOBBLED OF AND WAVED GOOD BYE

I heard him whistling a little tune as he went

I came back again next day

But he was not there

I noticed a policeman standing near

And I asked him if he had seen the old man

He said he did in a very low tone

He passed away last night alone.

The moral of this story is:

“Never let your parents down as maybe you will be

Lying on that bench ALONE”
