The paper summarizes the characteristics discovery services and tools into a checklist of 12 features. This paper also checked the major comparison between Proprietary Discover tools. The paper also discusses the service provided by Central Library of IIT Kharagpur i.e. "eSearch Software". Discovery tools have many next generation catalog features, but only a few can be called real next generation catalogs. Federated searching and relevancy based on circulation statistics are the two areas that both open source and proprietary discovery tools are missing. This paper gives information about discovery service provide by Central Library of IIT Kharagpur. It will provide information as to exactly where discovery tools stand in light of the much desired next generation catalog.

This paper focuses on the requirements, functions and use of digital preservation in an institutional repository context. The paper highlights on various feature and importance of both Institutional Digital Repository and Open Source Digital Library Software that is DSpace. The Central Library IIT, Kharagpur uses open sources digital library software namely DSpace. The IDR of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKGP) collects preserves and makes available in digital format of the scholarly output of IIT Kharagpur community. Its interface provides for an easy self-archiving by faculty, and organizes the documents in logical, easily retrieved fashion.

The application of information and communication technology in education had brought a tremendous improvement to learning, research and study. ICT was used by many libraries as their main methods of delivering information services and resources via online chat rooms, e-mail services, teleconferencing and toll-free numbers, etc. Recommendation was basically on the need for the libraries to create adequate awareness on the need for students to embrace the use of ICT.
