Md. Mahfuzar Rahman
This is Md. Mahfuzar Rahman and I earned my Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.-Honours), Masters of Science (M.Sc.-Thesis group), and Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil) from the Department of Population Science and Human Resource Development of Rajshahi University (http://www.ru.ac.bd/) Bangladesh, which is rated as one of the best Public Universities in Bangladesh. It is to say here that the medium of instruction during my B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels was English. My scholastic records and achievements have been outstanding during my University education where I have consistently ranked first class with first position among the students of my class.
I did my M.Sc thesis on “Issues Related to Fertility Behavior, Maternal and Child Health Care of Slum Areas in Rajshahi City Corporation, Bangladesh” and M.Phil thesis on “A Study on Infant and Under-five Mortality in Bangladesh.” In my M.Sc thesis, I used primary data collected using a questionnaire and applied the Chi-Square Analysis & Logistic Regression Model. In my M. Phil thesis, I used Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) 2004 data and applied Indirect Techniques (Brass’s, Sullivan’s & Trussell’s Method) of Mortality Estimation, Logistic Regression Model, Constructed Abridged Life Table, and Discriminant Analysis. It is to mention here that I have contributed over 28 more articles in internationally referred journals.
I started my professional career as a Research Associate in the Bangladesh Institute of Social Research (BISR), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Then I was appointed as Drop-in Centre (DIC) Manager under a project run by the World Bank entitled “HIV/AIDS Intervention Services (HAIS) Package-13 for the Internal Migrant/Client of Sex Workers”. Then I joined the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT), Dhaka, the Bangladesh Chapter of IIIT (Virginia, USA) as Assistant Director. As a sign of my professional accomplishment, I was promoted to the position of senior Assistant Director. Now I am serving as Senior Assistant Director in Social Development Trust (SDT), Dhaka, Bangladesh.
In the way, with about 20 years of professional experience in the field of research and development, I have gained sound and firm grounding on women & gender, socio-economic & socio-demographic issues, maternal & child health issues, and inter and intra-faith issues along with invaluable skills to manage, lead, and collaborate research projects.
Both at Graduation and Post Graduation studied in Population Science and Human Resource Development where the related courses were Population Dynamics, Population Projection & Estimation, Population Policies & Programs, Population Theory, Advanced Population Studies, Advanced Population Analysis, Population Data Analysis, Demographic Estimation, Stochastic Process for Population, Mathematical Demography, Population Modeling, Introductory Statistics, Theory of Statistics, Statistical Methods, Life Time Analysis, Econometric Methods etc. which provided me a strong foundation in understanding the family demography, social inequality and welfare states issues.
Graduation and post-graduation at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh has not only given me a sound and firm grounding in demography but also taught me the invaluable skills to manage, lead and collaborate effectively with people. I am quite familiar with the various analytical techniques and procedures to identify the various indicators closely associated with childbearing, childbearing outside marriage, and time spent as a lone parent and their effects on population and community lever using the dataset like Generations and Gender Survey and further their computer-based analysis and modeling by using different software like Excel, SPSS, MINI TAB etc.
Recently I have been pursuing my PhD at the Department of Population Science and Human Resource Development, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
