The present study seeks to observe emotional intelligence (EI) among children of four Christian M... more The present study seeks to observe emotional intelligence (EI) among children of four Christian Missionary Schools in the Kolkata metropolitan area and stipulates the need to cultivate EI from the preparatory years of the children. 316 children were studied using a cross-sectional survey design and found the presence of a reasonably good amount of emotional intelligence where gender was associated with a statistically significant variation in EI scores. It also showed no association between parental education, choice of hobby, presence of sibling, family structure and locality of residence to one's own emotional intelligence. The results of the study recapitulate the effectiveness of the faith-oriented learning environment at missionary school settings in promotion of emotional intelligence among the children by developing self-control, empathy and values-based decision making.

Good listening ability helps a person to make ideas, processing information, making pertinent comments, and ask relevant questions. This study aimed to understand existing listening skills among the socially disadvantaged students based on different demographic indicators and check whether listening skill and academic performance are somehow related when both the category of students are considered in higher education in West Bengal. Undergraduate freshman students of college and universities at West Bengal consisted of the population for the study where 225 students who regularly attended the course after successful completion of the higher secondary level selected as sample. Major findings revealed that the gender, stream, and medium of instruction has a significant contribution in a variation of listening skill (p<0.05); also, listening skill and academic performance is positively correlated with high statistical significance (p<0.01).
The present study aimed to find out whether schools with residential facilities for girls with ch... more The present study aimed to find out whether schools with residential facilities for girls with childhood adversities can help them develop positive self-esteem through a resilient environment and care. 441 girls from two schools with residential facilities under Sarva Shiksha Mission (SSM) scheme having middle to lower socioeconomic backgrounds in Kolkata metropolitan area among which 210 has childhood adversities, were studied. Results informed a significant impact of inclusive hostel facilities on self-esteem of girls having childhood adversities. The study suggests establishment of more residential schools in a caring and supportive environment i.e. resilient environment, particularly for girls having childhood adversities to promote self-esteem as an important life skill for development of not only their personality but also all aspects of their life meaningfully.
This study intended to observe teacher happiness at primary schools of an Indian state namely Wes... more This study intended to observe teacher happiness at primary schools of an Indian state namely West Bengal.Analysing 374 participating teachers' self-reported data collected with Oxford Happiness Questionnaire and rating scale, the study found greater number of unhappy teachers went on teaching in the primary schools of twelve districts in West Bengal. Even, the average happiness scenario was lower compared to the standard happiness scores as found by several other researchers across the world. Different personal and social factors found to have significantly affected the happiness of teachers along with their perception of happiness. The present study suggests immediate intervention for boosting teacher happiness as they noteworthily contribute to the pupils' well-being and happiness in and outside the school.

A total number of 200 teachers from 62 different schools situated in 3 different districts of West Bengal were chosen through purposive sampling method. Both personal and professional information were sought along with the questionnaire schedule to find out contextual diversities and their influence on the teachers' view and practices of ICT in classroom teaching. Researchers' made valid and reliable questionnaire schedule was used in this study, which to a significant extent, resulted in drawing out necessary conclusions.
The enactment of RTE Act 2009 stirred the existing school education system throughout the country... more The enactment of RTE Act 2009 stirred the existing school education system throughout the country. Bundles of norms and standards were set to achieve universaliza-tion of free and compulsory education to all children in the age segment 6-14 years. Several initiatives were taken, thought the outcomes are not complacent till today. This study endeavoured to look beyond the general criticisms that were made earlier on the Act and its propositions. A positive picture which was intended to be drawn out by the act to some extent has been reviewed. The investigator has gone through as far as possible, the different status reports at national level which pointed out the favourable and unfavourable outcomes of the ongoing elementary education system in the country with special emphasis on rural India.
