Oscar Davison is a PhD student within the QUT School of Law and the recipient of a QUT Postgraduate Research Award Scholarship, from the QUT Centre for Justice. His PhD, "Green Capitalism, Climate Finance and Barriers to Climate Justice" addresses how green capitalist ideology has impacted UNFCCC Climate Funds abilities to achieve climate justice.

Oscar passionate researcher, and has presented at the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and have worked as a research assistant at the Queensland University of Technology, working towards publishing several papers on Climate Change, Environmental Law, Human Rights, Climate Finance, and the Circular Economy.

For Australia to meet its nationally legislated emissions reduction targets of 43 per cent of emi... more For Australia to meet its nationally legislated emissions reduction targets of 43 per cent of emissions by 2030, reach net-zero by 2050, and contribute to Australia’s future energy exports, Australia will need to significantly expand renewable energy installation and production. This will include the significant uptake solar photovoltaic (“SPV”) resources, which is expected to be the leading source of global energy by 2050. This paper will first provide an overview of the literature regarding the circular economy. Second, it will examine the environmental benefits of implementing a circular economy for solar photovoltaic resources and lithium-ion battery production. Next, it will discuss the implementation of circular economy principles in Australia regarding SPVs and batteries, while discussing European and Chinese experiences.

Reparations For Climate Harm and The Role of The Loss and Damage Mechanism: Lessons from Other Areas of Law

The Global South is increasingly calling upon nations in the Global North to develop finance mech... more The Global South is increasingly calling upon nations in the Global North to develop finance mechanisms to combat loss and damage. However, loss and damage remains underdeveloped due to the Global North’s current refusal to accept financial responsibility for climate harm occurring in vulnerable nations. Scholars have argued that the finance for loss and damage should be based upon the principle of reparations, but there is very limited research exploring how a reparations scheme should work. This article explores two existing reparations schemes: Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Australia’s National Re- dress scheme, to identify successful elements and limitations of these schemes. Based on this analysis, this article proposes that a climate reparations scheme should be informed by Indigenous voices and knowledge and focus on providing multiple forms of meaningful redress. The paper also finds that it is possible to develop a reparations scheme without necessarily imposing liability on the Global North. It argues that a scheme of this nature may result in the Global North being more willing to develop financing to combat loss and dam- age and start paving the way for meaningful climate reparations.
