Mailchimp (PRO)

Mailchimp is one of the most popular email marketing platforms nowadays. It is an all-in-one solution for those trying to create targeted email marketing campaigns, automate tasks, segment the customers, and improve sales.

WordPress Quiz Plugin has an Integration with the MailChimp Email Marketing Platform. So, let’s explore how to make the WordPress Quiz Plugin and Mailchimp tool work together.

Creating a Mailchimp Account #

Of course, the first step to make the Quiz Maker and MailChimp Integration possible is to create an account on MailChimp.

To do this, please head to the MailChimp Sign Up page and create an account by filling in the necessary data.
If you already have an account on MailChimp, you can skip the sign-up process and just log in to your MailChimp account.

Creating API Key #

The next step is to create a valid API Key on the MailChimp account.

To create a new API Key on MailChimp, please follow these steps:

  • Head to the Extras Tab > API Keys page on your MailChimp account.
  • Click on the Create a Key Button. Create a Key Button.
  • Generate a new Key and copy it.

Collecting User Data for the Integration #

The final step is to enable the Information Form option for the quiz to collect data and add it to the MailChimp List.

To collect users’ data, please head to the Quizzes page > particular quiz > User Data Tab and tick the Information Form option. Set it either Before or After Quiz.
Then, drag and drop the fields from the Available Fields into the Active Fields.

Mailchimp Tags Adding Option by Interval #

Mailchimp tags by interval automatically adds specific Mailchimp tags to a quiz taker based on the result interval they fall into (e.g., Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced).
This is powerful because it lets you:

  • Segment your audience automatically: Send different follow-up emails to learners who scored low vs. high.
  • Trigger targeted automations: Start a “remediation” sequence for low scores, a “next-level course” offer for high scores, etc.
  • Keep your CRM clean: Tags are applied to the contact in your chosen Mailchimp audience and can be used in campaigns, segments, and journeys.
  • Save time: No exporting/importing or manual tagging because everything happens when the quiz is submitted.

Prerequisites #

Step 1: Connect Mailchimp #

  1. Go to Quiz Maker → General Settings → Integrations.
  2. In the Mailchimp block, enter your Username and API Key.
    • If you don’t have an API key, create one in Mailchimp → Account → Extras → API keys.
    • Keep your API key private; do not share it with anyone.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Step 3: Assign Tags to Each Interval #

  1. While still in the same quiz, go to Results Settings → Advanced.
  2. Scroll to the Intervals section.
  3. Click the “⌄” to expand each interval and view its options.
  4. Then, for each interval, locate the Mailchimp Tags for Intervals field and enter the tag(s) you want applied when a user’s result falls into that interval.
    • Separate multiple tags with commas (e.g., beginner,retake-suggested).
    • If a tag doesn’t already exist in Mailchimp, it will be created automatically and linked to the contact.

Example mapping

  • 0–25: beginner,remediation
  • 26–50: intermediate,practice
  • 51–100: advanced,next-course
Mailchimp Tags For Intervals

Note: When you first set up Mailchimp tags by interval, the tags you enter in Quiz Maker may not immediately appear in the MailChimp → Audience → Tags section of Mailchimp. We recommend manually creating one tag in your Mailchimp account first. After that, all new tags added from Quiz Maker will start showing up correctly in the tags list.

Best Practices #

Keep tag names short, consistent, and meaningful (e.g., beginner, intermediate, advanced).
Use the same tag set across similar quizzes so you can segment easily in Mailchimp.

Step 4: Test Your Setup (Recommended) #

  1. Take the quiz using a test email (or a test user account).
  2. After submitting, check Mailchimp → Audience → Tags, and confirm the tags appear as expected.
Tags In Mailchimp

That’s it! You’ve set up Mailchimp tags by interval in Quiz Maker! From now on, each quiz submission will automatically tag the contact in Mailchimp based on their score interval, making it easy to segment, personalize follow-ups, and launch targeted automations.
