Every day, new technological tools are introduced to different educational settings, and teachers/learners can benefit from them to reach their goals. According to Diaz (2011), cloud-based technologies refer to “the vast array of socially oriented, free or nearly free, web-based tools” (p. 95).The present study investigated the comparative effect of using online slide-share and Google documents on ESP learners’ self-efficacy in reaching skill. To this end, 60 out of 94 university students were homogenized by Oxford Placement Test (OPT), and selected as the eligible participants for this study .Next, all selected participants were administered a standardized questionnaire regarding to self-efficacy in reading skill. Meanwhile, the participants in experimental groups underwent the treatments-reading material...

So, the performance of interpreters would definitely influence on further success in above mentioned objectives. In the present study, the researchers tried to investigate employed strategies in Persian to English consecutive interpreting of medical and healthcare terms with only one equivalent word by interpreting learners across gender. To this end, twenty four male and female interpreting learners were selected based on the obtained scores in a proficiency test and an interpreting exam. Then, they were asked to listen and interpret consecutively a Persian medical audio file. All interpreters were free to take notes or any kind of techniques they deemed necessary. While they were involved in the process of...

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is a statistically significant difference between predictability of Iranian EFL teachers’ emotional quotient (EQ) and sense of plausibility with their sense of classroom management. To this end, a sample of 120 (60 female and 60 male) experienced EFL teachers were selected at different schools and language institutes in Qazvin, Iran. Then three standardized questionnaires were administered to all participants, including the attitudes and beliefs on classroom control (ABCC) Inventory, teachers’ sense of plausibility to language teaching pedagogy, and emotional intelligence (EQ). Next, standard multiple regression analysis was utilized to probe the research question. The results revealed that EFL teachers’ sense of plausibility was a more statistically significant...

To this end, 90 EFL teachers at English language institutes in Tehran province were selected as the participants. The needed data was gathered by the use of two standardized questionnaires (filled by the participants): EQ and teacher job satisfaction questionnaires. First of all, the normality of the gathered data was checked through using SPSS version 23. Then, the Spearman coefficient of correlation was used to find whether there is any relationship between the participants’ EQ and job satisfaction. The results proved the two variables had a statistically significant and positive correlation with each other. In the next step, the researchers opted for the multiple regression analysis to achieve the research objective. The pre...

This research employed resilience scale by Connor and Davidson (2003) and learner autonomy questionnaire by Spratt, Humphreys and Chan (2002) to evaluate EFL learners' resilience level and their autonomy. To meet the purpose of this study, about 150 male and female participants randomly selected among undergraduate students majoring English language translation. Collected data of two questionnaires were analyzed through Spearman's correlation and regression. Findings of the correlation analysis revealed that there is a significant relationship between resilience and autonomy (ρ = .29, n = 156, p < .01). Also, results showed that resilience is a strong predictor for autonomous learning.

So, the ability to communicate in a comprehensive way is one of the major goals of any second language educational setting. The aims of the present research were to investigate the relationship between Iranian EFL learners' social intelligence (SI) and their willingness to communicate (WTC) across gender, as well as to find out any possible difference between male and female learners in SI and their WTC relationship. To this end, 240 male and female EFL learners from different institutions were selected as the participants of the study with different age ranges based on convenient sampling. Then two standardized questionnaires, i.e., SI and WTC, were administered for all participants to answer. After collecting the required data and its analysis, the findings revealed a positive and significant correlation between male and female SI and their WTC. In addition, further statistical analysis using formula showed no difference between learners' SI and WTC relationship across gender. The findings of the present research could be applicable for EFL learners, teachers, and material developers.

Also, current advances in computer technology are affecting the ways the teachers use to develop learners' language skills. The present study investigated the effectiveness of computer-aided argument mapping (CAAM) on the improvement of writing achievement of Iranian learners of English. To this end, after administrating a language proficiency test and an essay writing test, 90 students were chosen as the participants of this study. Next, the participants were categorized randomly into three groups as control, experimental 1, and experimental 2. During the course, as the both experimental groups did their writing tasks with the CAAM software (in person/in pairs), the control group did their assignments with pen and paper. Finally, a post test of essay writing was administered for all participants. Using SPSS version 19 and One-way ANOVA statistical procedure, the results showed a statistically significant difference between those who received the technique of CAAM and those who wrote their assignments in traditional way. Also, there was a statistically significant difference between the participants in the both experimental groups. In other words, collaborative learning in a computer hands-on learning environment was effective on writing achievement. Index Terms—writing and second language learning, computer-aided argument mapping
