By unraveling the past, we become confronted with the present already as future.” After reading the piece, we’ll realize does Rizal really deserves to be our national hero. Were his actions leaning towards our country’s independence and de-colonization or only acceptance and recognition from the Spaniards? A hero or a traitor?
In schools, we are first taught how to sing the national anthem of the Philippines, "Lupang Hinir... more In schools, we are first taught how to sing the national anthem of the Philippines, "Lupang Hinirang" and how to pledge the Patriotic Oath with fervor as a sign of respect to our country and to our ancestors who drew blood and sacrificed their lives for our freedom. There are also strict rules to be followed such as putting the right palm to the left part of the chest when singing, facing the flag, and raising the arm in a 90-degree angle when pledging. By these we are informed with how much respect we should pay to our flag, to our nation, and to our countrymen at such a young age. Following these, in our HEKASI (Heyograpiya, Kasaysayan, at Sibika) and Araling Panlipunan subjects we are taught about all the nation's pride, historic events, and national heroes, one of them and probably the most famous hero, José Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda or simply Dr. Jose Rizal.
