PRESENT CONTINUOUS
ESTRUTURA / FORM
O Present Continuous é formado pelo Verbo “To Be” no presente, acrescido de outro verbo na forma
do Gerúndio.

Formamos o presente contínuo com am / is / are + a forma -ing do verbo.
- I am writing a book.
- She is listening to the radio.
- They are doing their homework.
As formas abreviadas de am / is / are são: ’m / ’s / ’re.
- I‘m writing a book.
- She‘s listening to the radio.
- They‘re doing their homework.
As formas abreviadas negativas de am not / is not / are not são: 'm not / isn't / aren't.
- I‘m not writing a book.
- She isn’t listening to the radio.
- They aren’t doing their homework.
positivas.
- ‘Are you writing a book?’ ‘No, I’m not/I am not.’
- ‘Are you writing a book?’ ‘Yes, I am.’ (NOT Yes, I’m.)
- ‘What are you doing?’ ‘I‘m watching TV.’
- I‘m reading a very good book at the moment. (=I’m not reading it at the moment I’m speaking, but I’m
reading it these days.)
Now, these days, at the moment, etc.
Usamos o present continuous com expressões de tempo que significam ‘now’ ou ‘around now’: now, at
the moment, at present, today, these days, this week, etc.

make = making
drive = driving
write = writing
2) Verbos terminados em “ie”, perdem o “ie” e acrescenta-se Y+ING:
tie = tying
die = dying
lie = lying
3) Verbos monossílabos ou dissílabos oxítonos, terminados em consoante-vogal-consoante (C-V-C) – dobra-se a
última letra e acrescenta-se ING:
run = running
swim = swimming
begin = beginning
dobramos a última letra.
open = opening
visit = visiting
picnic = picnicking
panic = panicking
USO
Ex.: The children are swimming.
Ex.: Why are you looking up and down?

Ex.: What are you doing on Friday evening?
I’m going out with a friend.
► Be careful!
Ex.: He’s coming back in ten years.
ATTENTION!
1- I don’t like to go to a country without knowing something of the language.
2 – Smoking is bad for you.
2 - Fumar faz mal a você.
substantivador.
3 – I like dancing
Nesse caso, I like dancing tem o mesmo
significado de I like to dance.
Stop to eat = pare para comer.
4 – It is a boring movie.
