Postpartum Support International

Texas
PSI-TX

Postpartum Support International (PSI) is the world’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to helping those suffering from perinatal mood disorders, the most common complication of childbirth.

Our Mission is to increase awareness, education, prevention, and treatment of perinatal mental health issues affecting individuals, their families, and support systems in all areas of Texas.

Our Vision is that all pregnant and postpartum individuals and their families, including those from underserved communities, will have access to perinatal support, mental health/healthcare providers, education, and resources to improve overall well-being through advocacy, training, and increased awareness of perinatal mental health.

Deanna Herrmann, LCSW-S, CCM, President

Deanna Herrmann is a licensed clinical social worker with over a decade of post-graduate school experience in diverse healthcare settings and community mental health.  Deanna’s expertise extends to crisis intervention, case management, and therapeutic support in various hospital settings, including Antepartum, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She has previous Board and committee experience while working at the Mayo Clinic.

Currently, Deanna works as a NICU and Women’s Services social worker at a local hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.  As a result of her own lived experience with postpartum anxiety, she is passionate about both providing and ensuring access to evidence-based care for pregnant and postpartum individuals. She is excited to be a part of the PSI-Texas Chapter to continue to promote education/awareness, advocate for change, and engage in her community.

Beth Bishop, Vice President

Beth has supported thousands of families in a perinatal hospital setting. These clients faced perinatal mood or thought disorders, traumatic births, reproductive challenges, pregnancy and infant losses, and/or medical complications, including NICU stays. Beth co-founded a council for racial and health equity in a local hospital, which spearheaded training, collaboration, and a focus on equitable excellence for both patients and staff.

Over decades, she has facilitated connection and growth plans for individuals, focusing on child development, identifying attachment and safety barriers, and mitigating trauma’s impact. Beth firmly believes in the preciousness of every individual and values support to help individuals thrive.  Beth loves yoga and hiking and nature photography. She won’t turn down a good slice of pizza.

Survivors, mental health professionals, doulas, clinicians, and anyone else interested and passionate about raising awareness about perinatal mental health can volunteer through the chapter in order to give back to their local communities.

PSI Chapters are made up of a variety of local advocates and stakeholders who further the mission of PSI on a grassroots level. Chapters work on a wide range of initiatives that they develop based on their communities needs. While some chapters may focus on passing legislation, others may create a robust network of peer support groups, and all chapters provide scholarships for PSI trainings and events.
