Bio

Matt is the director of Squelch Design, a small but fast growing web design and development agency in Newbury, West Berkshire.

I’ve been writing code since the early 90s, starting out on a BBC Microcomputer. I started getting interested in the web around 1998 and built my first ever (awful) website shortly after. In the early 2000s I worked for a while for a college in Nottingham and built them a web app that allowed personal tutors and course tutors to keep in touch regarding students’ performances on various courses.

I studied computer science at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth before moving to Newbury. I worked as a web developer for various companies before deciding to form my own company.

Interests

AI, programming, web design, web development, beer.

WordPress Origin Story

I started using WordPress around 2011/2012 as part of setting up my own business. I also experimented with a number of other CMSes at that time but soon realised that WordPress was the only option I could feasibly sell to my customers and, eventually, I made it the company’s specialism. Since then I’ve written 2 plugins that are in the directory (and I plan to release more when I find time) and put live hundreds of WordPress websites. I plan to put live hundreds more. I’ve trained countless people in using WordPress and I’ve trained a number of interns and apprentices to design and develop websites using WordPress.
