WordPress Origin Story

The industrial company I worked at as a salesperson back in 2017 needs to rebuild its website. Initially we bought a plan for a domestic drag and drop page builder in a closed platform, but at that time I have zero experience in web design, so the one I set up with the page builder doesn’t look good at all. In year 2019, we decided to hire a local web agency to redo a website, but again it’s really not what we wanted.

At this time, I’ve been itching to learn some web development knowledge so maybe one day I can build the site myself. That’s when I stumbled into WordPress from a Youtube video at the end of 2019. Next year, I volunteered to build the website with WordPress on my free time. I did ask for a pay for my time and my management team agreed. I’m really grateful for that. The first iteration was using Elementor (it’s version 2 if I remembered it correctly), but the page speed was not good so I switched to Kadence blocks and converted the pages to blocks-based. Then after that and before I switched to tech officially, I did two freelance projects in the same industry. With these two projects, I’m able to do lots of layout manually with the CSS.
