Bio

I have an early (1974) Computer Science degree from UBC in Vancouver, Canada, and spent my career in one area or another of Computing, as programmer, technical support, systems analyst, technical writer and manager. Since retiring in 2007, I have shifted my attention to web sites, adopting WordPress as my standard platform in 2008. Including a WordCamp session and answering more then 3500 Support forum posts.

WordPress Origin Story

Shortly after I retired in 2007, I asked to join the Edmonton Broadcasters Club, and was immediately assigned to take over their web site. Searching for a database-driven approach that allowed me to separate the data from its presentation (in WordPress, a Theme), I passed by WordPress as simply a blogging system, and ended up with Etomite. It took me several months of heavy duty coding to get a basic web site. A year later, seeing what a retired Edmonton DJ had done with WordPress, I discovered how much of what I had to build myself in Etomite was built into WordPress.

Except for a phpBB forum I built for a friend in 2007, everything I’ve done since late 2008 has been with WordPress.
