The process to translate plugins into your local language is quite easy.
To translate ProfileGrid Memberships into your local language all you need to do is head over to ProfileGrid Translation Project, select your locale, and begin adding your translations.
If you need assistance you can explore this step-by-step guide to translate plugins.
You can translate plugins to your language in two simple ways:
- Translate plugins directly on WordPress.org
- Translate plugins locally using PO editor software
However, the first option is preferred, more widely used by WordPress users, and has more benefits.
Translators can get a chance to win ProfileGrid Premium and/or ProfileGrid Premium+.
STEP 1: Translate ProfileGrid
Option 1: Translate plugins directly on WordPress.org
Step1: Login to your WordPress account and open the ProfileGrid page or the page of the plugin/theme that you wish to translate on wordpress.org.
Note: The further steps shown in this guide are in reference to ProfileGrid Memberships. You can follow the same steps to translate any WordPress plugin or theme.
Step2: Once the ProfileGrid Memberships page is open, scroll down and click on ‘Help translate it!’ or ‘Development.’
Step3: Further, on the development page, click “Translate “ProfileGrid Memberships – User Profiles, Groups and Communities” into your language.”
Step4: On the next page, will find the list of languages in which you can translate ProfileGrid Memberships.
Step5: Search and click on the language in which you want to translate ProfileGrid Memberships.
Step6: Double click on the translation column to add translations manually.
Step7: Further, click ‘Suggest’ to submit the translation.
Step9: You can track the status of your translations by going to the Waiting option.
Step10: After your translation status turns ‘Waiting’.

Option 2: Translate plugins locally using PO editor software
Step1: Open the ProfileGrid page on wordpress.org and download the file.
Step2: Open the ProfileGrid Memberships zip file and double click on the ‘Languages’ folder.
Step3: Search for the .PO files in the folder.
Step4: Use .OP file editors such as POEDIT or POEDITOR to edit and translate the file into your language.
Step5: Create an account on WordPress.org and open the ProfileGrid Memberships page.
Step6: Click on ‘Development’ and then click “Translate “ProfileGrid Memberships – User Profiles, Groups and Communities” into your language.”
Step7: Here you will find a list of languages. Search and click the language in which you have translated the plugin.
Step8: Further, click on “Stable (latest release).”
Step9: Scroll to the bottom and click on Import Translations.
Step10: Next, select the translated file and click ‘Import’ to upload the translations.
Note: Only upload the .PO translation file. You do not require to upload any other file from the plugin.
Step11: Once the translations are uploaded and the status of your translations turns into ‘Waiting’.
Step 2: Approve Your Translated Strings
Translated texts are approved by local WordPress team of volunteers, and not by plugin author. You will have to request one of Translation Editors (PTE) to approve your translation. You can find the PTE assigned to the project on right side bar (scroll down a bit), as an example on this page.
If no Translation Editor (PTE) is assigned, you can request to become a Translation Editor (PTE) for our plugin here:
PTE Request (Link provided for information only, you just need above link “Making a PTE Request Template” to complete the request)
Please make sure you are requesting to become a language editor (PTE) for your language only, otherwise your request will not be approved. You can tag us @metagauss in your request just like the user did here so that local language team knows that we are aware of your request. Volunteers will approve your request on first come first basis.
Once your request is approved, you can approve your translated texts yourself. You will be also able to approve any future translation requests from other users.
Step 3: Get ProfileGrid Premium for Free
Conditions to qualify for reward:
- Stable (latest release) and Stable Read Me (latest release) progress is less than 79% before you started the translation work
- Stable (latest release) and Stable Read Me (latest release) progress is above 85% once your finish the translation work
- ProfileGrid appears to be translated to locale language
Once above conditions are met we will offer you ProfileGrid Premium for free. If you will help us in translating the ProfileGrid Premium Version we will offer you ProfileGrid Premium+ completely free as well!
Note that we cannot accept the translation files on the email system. You need to upload the files directly to WordPress.org so the translations are available through your account. (check above process).
You can claim your reward by contacting us on our support portal. Please provide the locale link in your message for quick approval).
Hi there,
I’m sorry for the silly question, but want to translate the plugin into Spanish and I can’t find the languages folder. Where is it?
I beg you pardon in advance if the answer is too obvious,
Daniel
Hi, sorry if this a basic question. In the language folder I found the .po and .mo file for Spanish, the question is how do I indicate ProfileGrid to use Spanish for all the plugin?
You need to update site language from WordPress settings.
Hello,
I translated your plugin into French.
How can I send it to you?
For the record some sentences are still in English and not referenced in the .pot file.
Regards
bV
PS: I send this message a second time cause i was not logged the first time.
Thank you, please contact us from our support page (browse from top menu). We will reply back, and request the translation files.
Translation works fine. But i don’t find a way to translate the extensions like Group Photos.
Thx.

Hello Rudi,
Thank you for writing to us. While ProfileGrid core is fully translatable, we are still working on making its extensions translator friendly.
Stay tuned as we release an update on this in the near future.
Why you dont answer to my suggestions to translate your plugin to Russian?
Is it possible to translate ProfileGrid via in-WP-site LocoTranslate?
When, at what month, your extensions will be translatable?
PS Have you a plan to integrate some powerful comments system as wpDiscuz with ProfileGrid or create your own multi-functional comments engine?
Hi, There appears to be some miscommunication. We did respond to your ticket. I apologize for the delay due to weekend. Yes, you can translate core plugin via in-WP-site LocoTranslate. We are presently working on extensions compatibility. In the release going out today we have also fixed compatibility with wpDiscuz. A dedicated comments engine is an interesting idea and we will surely consider it once current pipeline of features has been delivered.
What is the better way to translate your ProfileGrid:
1) LocoTranslate;
2) POEdit;
3) https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/ru/default/wp-plugins/profilegrid-user-profiles-groups-and-communities/
Why LocoTranslate shows only 1518 strokes when WP-locale shows 2093? What is the different?
Hi, Both plugins should works fine. In Loco Translate you need to sync POT file to be able to see newer strings after update. We made some strings changes recently (including today’s release), so make sure you are using latest release.
