Update

If you live in or near Grand Rapids Michigan, there's a rally for Harris Walz tonight. Sean Astin will be there because he wanted to get on the campaign trail! I think that's so cool. Here's the link:

Don't forget to make sure you are still registered to vote. The Republicans are trying and succeeding in deleting voters from the voting roles. This election is crucial for our country. We can't let the GOP steal our country from us. Get involved.

Next. I got tooth #4 crowned yesterday, finally. For the root canal and crown, the total cost to me was $2,136. Outrageous. I have another root canal and crown in September, tooth #3. Then early next year I have to get an implant on the tooth that was pulled 2 months ago. By then, my insurance will kick in and it will pay 50%, up to $1,500. That implant will cost an astronomical amount, so the $1,500 isn't much. And the policy won't cover anymore than that for 2025. I have one of the best policies available, too.

Something has to be done about the insane amounts we have to pay for dental care. I don't know why dental care is always made to seem like something that's optional, because it absolutely isn't.

Anyway, I have about a month until I have to think about it again, I hope.

I may drive up to the mountains or out to the coast again soon.

There's a stray ginger cat that showed up out of nowhere. He keeps hanging out on my front porch.

The temperatures are on their slow trek downward now. It's been over 100F for months now. This week it's dropped into the 90s. It may still go back into the 100s, but it's on a trend down.

How are you all doing?

Dentist update

Well, yesterday afternoon I got my first root canal! It was on tooth #4, an upper bicuspid tooth.
The dentist I had had excellent credentials, and it took him about an hour.

I'm baaacck

Got home about 7:30 pm last night.

I'll tell you more later, but for now I'm going to post videos of the animals at my friend's house. They bought a ranch in the hills of Willits California last June. Laurie is my childhood friend, and John is her 3rd husband. They've been together for many years. This ranch is 25 acres, and John drove me around some of the grounds in his little 4 wheeler vehicle.

They have 4 horses, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 3 chickens and innumerable wild turkeys, other birds, deer, coyote, etc. Oh, and raccoons. The wild raccoons killed 2 of their chickens while I was there-- before that, they had 5 chickens.

Moscow is brown and white pinto gelding Batik is white with tiny bit of black. Dallas is brown with black. Dallas is leader of the pack. Wendy is black and white. Most are in their 20s.

Rose Parade!

EDIT: I like to watch it on KTLA. Here's more about how to watch it there.
https://ktla.com/2020/01/01/watch-the-131st-rose-parade-presented-by-honda-a-new-years-day-tradition/

This is my annual reminder. Do not miss the best parade in the world...the Pasadena Rose Parade. This year there are 44 flower covered floats and 20 marching bands from around the world. This parade also has quite a few equestrian units that are fun to watch.

Of course I grew up not far from there, so it's special to me. If you watch it, let me know.

It starts at 8 am Pacific time (Los Angeles time) today.

Watch the 131st Rose Parade Presented by Honda, a New Year’s Day Tradition
Posted 6:00 AM, January 1, 2020, by KTLA 5

The iconic Southern California New Year’s tradition — the Rose Parade — runs along a 5 1/2-mile route in Pasadena and this year includes 39 floral-decorated floats, 20 marching bands, 17 equestrians units, and of course the Royal Court and Rose Queen.

Put on by the Tournament of Roses, the 131st Rose Parade begins at 8 a.m. PT Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020. This year marks the 73rd consecutive television broadcast of the Rose Parade on KTLA.

Before the big event, KTLA will air two hours of pre-parade programming, “Backstage at the Rose Parade,” and “Rose Parade Countdown.”

The theme for the 2020 parade is “The Power of Hope,” which the tournament says “celebrates the influence of optimism and hope.”

The three grand marshals are Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, actress Gina Torres and prolific performer Rita Moreno.

The 102nd Rose Queen is Camille Kennedy of Pasadena, a senior at La Salle College Preparatory.

KTLA’s hosts for the broadcast are Leeza Gibbons, Mark Steines and our own Micah Ohlman.

If you’re a particular fan of one of the marching bands in the parade, you can watch the “Band Cam” — a raw, unedited feed devoted to the bands — on KTLA’s Facebook page.

The parade will be available to watch on demand on KTLA’s YouTube page.

Congress Trail and General Sherman Tree

I went back to Sequoia yesterday and hiked to the General Sherman Tree, and then did part of the Congress Trail loop. I guess it was about a 2 mile hike.

I'm only putting a few photos behind the cut this time, and I have labeled what they are.
